"Citizen Kane is worthless"
There goes your credibility,

"Citizen Kane" fan, "Frozen" fan, and "Boyhood" fan. ;)

The fact that you rated Ikiru 3/10 (one of the best films of all time) and rated Boyhood 5/10 proves how ridiculous you are! I think you didn't understand Japan cinema at all!

reply

Films are subjective and you are a hateful republican !

First, I have to apologize you for being rude with you for no reasons and then attack your ratings. Of course, I know that films are subjective but sometimes, I couldn't control myself when someone has bad reviews about my favorite films, so I'm sorry.
Second,of course the Academy is still ridiculous, and I love films got nominated than films actually won, like Argo and Crash. But Boyhood isn't those films, it was made for us, not for the Oscar campaign like those films and it's one of the most powerful, deeply moving and beautiful films in this year. It doesn't belong to the crazy Hollywood industry so actually, I hope it will not win Oscar more!
Third, I saw Fantasia 3 years ago, when I was in 8th grade, sure, it's truly a masterpiece in animated world, and in my opinion, The Tale of princess Kaguya is one of the animated films could compare to Fantasia (with Spirited Away, Up and Princess Mononoke). I don't think Steeburgen was breathless, like phone porn (a little insulting I think?). I also don't think the characters were flat and 2-dimensional. It was based on folktale, and the characters have much more depth compared to the orginal story and the characters development is brilliant ( completely opposite with Disney films which were based on fairy tale).Yes, it is a bit corny like you said but in this situation, it's not bad, because of it, the characters are not cold or emotional distant to the audience. Like you said that film was corny, I could also say that Ingmar Bergman' s films were so corny and melodramatic. It's like the style of Japanese animation or classic Japanese films!
Fourth,I don't know how to see your reasons about Ikiru ( sorry, new one on Imdb), but you don't think this film was one of Akira's most deeply humane and morally complex films? ( especially the Ending). In my opinion, it is actually better than 7 samurai, Hidden Fortress and could compare to Rashomon.
Fifth, I am Vietnamese, so I don't know much about Netflix streaming. And sorry, my English is not good at all, I am just a student!

You made some very good points about Boyhood and I did change my opinion a little. But your comment about Ikiru, I just couldn't agree even a little. Still, I respect your opinions.

Actually, Bluedoctor rated some greatest films of all time very high like The shining, Persona, Dr Strangelove,... I don't think he had "bad taste" in films just because he rated low for some greatest films of all time. And rating high for those films doesn't mean you had good taste in films. We just have different opinions about films. In my opinion, I only consider bad taste when someone thinks films like Transformers is better, more interesting and smarter than Stanley Kubrick or David Lynch classic films!

Don't you understand Giang, I try to defend you! Doctor have give lowers vote for great film, what i've say? no matter transformers have better ratings from The Spirit of Beehive (for example) or Death in Venice have low ratings, it's a same!

for BluesDoctor from your comment I know how very arrogant you are, doctor, and please don't compare Kaguya with Fantasia, Fantasia is abstrack and musical film and that film is have status as a legend and Kaguya is Fairy Tale and just have 2 years release, compare Kaguya with Fantasia is a crime, why don't you compare Fantasia with The Man who Planted Tress, Grave of the Fireflies, My Neighbor Totoro, Fantastic Planet, The King and The Mockingbird, Alice (1988 version), Tale of Tales, Hedgehog in the Fog or Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs?

if you want compare Kaguya its must be with Coraline, The Wind Rises, Fantastic mr. Fox, Ratatouille, Spirited Away, Up, Toy Story 3, Wall-E or animated release after 2000

Sorry I have edit my message cause its important, i just want say:

I know how your personality type doctor, utilizing knowledge film and mixing with your opinion to attack other people who have different opinion with you, I understand and many people like you out there

Sorry BluesDoctor I must enter people like you to Ignored list

Edit again: Wall-E bad? you just an idiot

The characters appear flat visually, without perspective. It's the way they're drawn, like South Park.

The characters, which are often the only thing moving in the cell (the frame), are incompletely filled in, with white showing around the edges.

Wow, what a stupid comment.

reply

I agree but Song of the sea is a solid second best.

Dear bluesdoctor,

I believe that there are two rules to talk about films: Be Honest and Be Flexible. Congratulations for the first rule, but I'm afraid that you think separate opinions of yours are wrong, and if you don't think that, you sure act like it. You are like, "Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, etc. are garbage" instead of, say, "I don't enjoy Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, etc as much as everyone else." The difference between this two is that quote #2 shows you can respect anotherr person's opinions while still not letting yours down. Quote #1 paints yourself to believe that your truth is the only one that matters to you, which is fine if you respect everyone else's opinions and allow yourself to potentially find yourself changing sides, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Inviting other opinions not only is the nice thing to do, but it also allows yourself to find the better version of your opinion. I found myself really disappointed by Kiki's Delivery Service, finding it too sad to be an imitation of life while too conflict-less to be justified. It felt like a mix between two movies, much like how I feel about Ponyo. That was my opinion for a while. However, after about a week after seeing it, I started asking myself some questions about the film that might have contradicted my opinion, such as, "What was the film about?" I awnsered, "Well, several elements of the film are similar to what kids go through when they leave home, and... OMG, how can I suddenly love this movie so much?!?!?!

Before you insult someone else's opinion, be sure to at least acknowledge the fact that you might be seen as wrong in someone else's eyes, and don't just defend your opinion, listen to the other side. If you think Kaguya grasps at ones emotional triggers too much, ask questions to yourself about it, and allow your opinion to be altered, and look towards a different opinion. Ask me those questions about this movie, if you want too. I'll defend my opinion while being open to yours.
