Smart guys are Sexy

just have to say it. I love this show and I would rather date any of these guys over the bulked up juice heads that typically run rampant as protagonists in television series.

Just smart guys or specifically engineers?

reply

LOLOL....yeah....

Just as long as those "smart guys" have the potential to eventually get rich. Every dating profile I've ever read who said anything similar to the OP, always seem to deem the guys not so sexy, once they find out you are making less than six figures lol.

As a sex, women detest genuinely smart, masculine men. They like to believe that they themselves are mentally superior in a relationship, since the man normally gets the nod in physical strength. This is why so many good-looking females go after good-looking men, if they are sub-standard in the brain department. They go after troll-ugly, "eccentric" men, if those men have the moolah. In reality, only women lacking in the looks department end up "settling" for whoever will have them.

Let's face it; why would an attractive woman want to spend her life with a guy who has an average income, yet is superior mentally and physically to her? Most women have self-worth issues as it is, thanks to main street marketing always trying to convince her she never "looks" good enough, let alone putting up with the added pressure at home with her husband.

Don't shoot the messenger.....look all around you, and see who chooses whom to wed. Not a steadfast rule, and exceptions exist, but not as many as you'd like to believe. Don't blame me....blame "mother" nature.

"Hey, shut up in there, I'm trying to type....." OT: Do the voices in my head bother you?

Don't agree with me, that is not where I was going with this. You're trying to turn it into one of those threads.

To be fair not every woman who's looking for a smart guy is looking for his paycheck and to assume so is a blatant insult to women everywhere. Are you really suggesting that a guys income is the discerning factor in what attracts a woman? Have you ever actually dated a woman?

Wow, this one is just as delusional and misinformed. I can assure you, as a woman, that I not only do NOT detest a genuinely smart man or a particularly masculine man, I'm quite certain that those two qualities are not exclusive to one another. Im an attractive female that dates men typically deemed "out of my league" because I find intelligence to be a turn on. That was what my original post was about and i'm not sure why masculinity became part of this discussion. Regardless, your views regarding women are pretty convincing evidence that you lack experience with real actual living and breathing women.

Let's face it; why would an attractive woman want to spend her life with a guy who has an average income, yet is superior mentally and physically to her?

Because women tend to be less shallow than men. (Not all men are like this but its become obvious on a lot of boards that women, in tv especially, are much more criticized and judged for their appearance than men are. women will more often value and prioritize other qualities over looks...things like sense of humor, kindness and yup, you guessed it, INTELLIGENCE. Those are all major factors in a womans attraction. Why would I want to spend my life with someone that stimulates my mind and inspires creative and critical thinking? Well thats a stupid question  Furthermore, if youd ever actually been in a relationship you may realize it isnt about superiority at all...In fact it makes me wonder why youve adopted this rather warped and twisted mindset on the dynamic of a heterosexual relationship.

I've always found engineering and engineers sexy. When I was in school I passed up an opportunity to date a great, smart guy just because he wasn't an engineering major, but a language major. Later I kicked myself, but that was what I was attracted to.

It has nothing to do with earning potential regardless of what waterloo says. I was naïve then and never even thought about money. Besides, my major was similar, so I had plenty of earning potential of my own. Engineering/Sciences just seemed like the sexiest thing a man could be interested in. Of course it tends to attract smart people, who are usually interesting people.

reply

ha thats funny that you mentioned that. While my attraction to someone certainly isnt exclusive to one type of intellectual, I do have a history of dating engineers. One a mechanical engineer, another an environmental engineer and the last a chemical engineer :) Agreed, it certainly doesnt have anything to do with their income....i couldn't care less what a guy makes. People that say things like that have absolutely no real life experience with an actual woman I think.lol.

reply

Lol agree! Can't stand Big Bang Theory though so idk..

What does BBT have to do with it? You mean you wouldn't date any of those guys? Probably me neither. No one said every engineer is dateable.

reply

Ya, TBBT is ewww. Not funny at all, the "geeks" are about as realistic as the Tri-lams from Revenge of the Nerds. (Which is still an awesome movie despite that) And I don't find any of the guys on that show endearing at all, mostly just annoying actually.

reply

Not that you said anything about engineers, but since others have, and most of the characters on the show are, I'd thought I'd weigh in on that.

If this is what we are going on, I'd say that the smarts aren't really all that much there in the cast. They may be good at what they do--coding--but it doesn't seem like they are particularly learned in any other area.

They don't seem to have any broad knowledge to really engage one in a conversation. They just aren't "juice heads" as you write.

There is one exception, and that is Jared. Sure, he's the character that is supposed to "explain" things for them, which is to explain things for us, but he's the only one that talks about other things besides his job, really, even if it is obscure references to ruses during war, German WWII propaganda, and such, but he's still the only one, I think, that would be able to win it all on Jeopardy! and be able to converse on a wide range of subjects.

So, yeah, they are smart, but I don't think they are "sexy" smart, except maybe Jared.

That guy fu*ks.

Do you know what it's like to code? You don't just write something, you have to make it work. This takes logic, math, and problem-solving skills, not mere editing. Between coding and testing, correcting, and retesting to make it work, this job is like solving puzzles all day. On a time limit.

These guys have the tools to be good at anything. They don't just memorize a bunch of facts like "Jeopardy" contestants. (Of course "Jeopardy" is timed, too, and I concede I am impressed with the quickness of recall by the contestants).

They don't seem to have any broad knowledge to really engage one in a conversation. They just aren't "juice heads" as you write.

They seldom get involved in social causes or deeply interested in world events. They like things more than people. They tend to be political conservatives because they are self-sufficient. They just want to be left alone to build their software.

There is one exception, and that is Jared. Sure, he's the character that is supposed to "explain" things for them, which is to explain things for us, but he's the only one that talks about other things besides his job....I think, that would be able to win it all on Jeopardy! and be able to converse on a wide range of subjects.

I disagree that Jared is the only well-rounded one on the show. In the early seasons Richard has demonstrated knowledge of things like history and classic literature and was anal about incorrect grammar and demonstrations of faulty logic. And Erlich, he knows how to pronounce Fage (his yogurt brand) and Aviato (his company) with the correct regional accent! He is very worldly in his knowledge, not "just a coder". If you went out to dinner with him he'd be entertaining and choose a great bottle of wine.

But there are all different kinds of engineers. Introverts, extroverts, nerds, athletes. Some are very articulate and they tend to become managers.

So, yeah, they are smart, but I don't think they are "sexy" smart, except maybe Jared.

So engineers are not your type. That's fine.

reply

yeah I think you are trying to compare one extreme to the other stereotype. Juice heads are usually in body building mostly, never seen a show with an actual juice head main actor, any example? Silicon Valley actually plays on stereotypes just like any other show, though it is quite close to reality in some occasions.

reply

Lol ya, I suppose I should have been more specific on that but it was just easier to get my point across with simply stating "juice head". (Which in my case is a guy who is muscular, goes tanning, wears name brand jeans with clunky pieces of metal, loves sports cars, sports bars and sports sports sports, spends 150.00 on a pair of sneakers, and has likely never picked a book up in his life)

reply

well I am muscular, go tanning and wear brand jeans (the only that fit me since regular jeans are worthless), but I have no driver's license and hate jewellery and sports in general

reply

It's hard *not* to spend $150 on a pair of sneakers these days, if you're serious about keeping your feet/knees in good condition.

ETA that is, running sneakers. Sneakers just for walking around and looking good, well...

Wasn't that the entire basis of Jersey Shore (which I never saw, really)?

My Chimp DNA seems to have lost its password temporarily. Sluggr-2

It's impossible, but I will do it--The Walk.

I married a smart guy. He's so sweet. Add lucky for both of us, he has become a little better at the social stuff, since being with me. He's got many similarities to the guys in this show. In fact, in the second episode, when Eurlich gets the stripper for the guys, I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe! They absolutely nailed the reactions!
