I am actually using comedy as a motivation for my son to learn. Whenever we see a joke on a show with a cultural reference we stop and go to that item so he can learn why it was funny. Dennis Miller was good for this since he could usually subreference a joke about 20 times before he was through with whatever analogy he was trying to make.

I was watching an episode of Mom the other night and a lead actress, Allison Janney, who was on West Wing was having a dream about having a different life and it flashed to a scene where she was President and other Mom and West Wing characters were interacting with her. Even though I never watched an episode of Left Wing for purely ideological reasons, it was still pretty funny.

On Last Man Standing, there was a scene where the two principals had to decide whether to tell someone they looked stupid and enjoy that moment, or to leave it alone and continue to enjoy in the absence of the third party's embarrassment. One of the principals in a deadpan voice says, "Yes, Sophie's Choice."
