India's involvement in 1971

While we all agree that India got directly involved only 13 days before the Pak surrender in Bangladesh, one can't ignore the help India gave to Mukta Bahinis before that. Many of the East Pak Army deserters were trained/supported by the Indian army, including Zia ur Rehman. This had started much before dec 1971, already back in 1970. One of the leading Indian army officers in that operation was Maj General Shabeg Singh - he was posted in Aggartala, Bangladesh from 1970 onwards.

I'm not justifying this movie, but just saw many posts by Bangladeshis saying India only helped in last 13 days which is false. What about the year of support and training to the guerillas and deserters? The open support was only 13 days true.

What do Bangladeshis have to say about this?

Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.

This is from a history student. Also read a wiki entry on 1971 war at least.

India being an obviously bigger military power literally rescued the said region from further devastation. The army under Manekshaw with Indira Gandhi's command, won the war in least time possible(with full force exerted, by taking away Indian armys resources from Indo-pak border for a while). Time was crucial as 1000s of people were getting killed in a day. So India had to act fast without UN nod.

Kindly read some history. Or at least surf the Internet on this topic, before you say India's 13 day 'help' was redundant.
