Well, this overlong-clip answers one crucial question.

The two psychologically-implausible heroes behave the way they do because all their psychologically-implausible behaviour was illegal in 1974.

I thought this movie was set in 1974 because—

1. they wanted to reference the ghastly Homicide TV show with the ghastly brown-suited Leonard Teale.

2. They wanted to emulate the Almodovar's mix of sinister behaviour and camp clothing.
