Third Episode

Tonight's show was filled with narrative warning that the dominant organism was the jungle itself. In the rainforest nothing is safe and everything has to fight for its own space.

The focus was on the intertwined lives of the animals, plants and fungi that use and are used by the forest. There were some fantastic shots at all sorts of levels both above and below ground, in the air, amongst the minutiae of the forest floor etc.

Favourite bits were the rock python: The forest's biggest predator at a whopping 5 metres long and with 4,000 muscles in its body for killing its prey! Wow! I loved also the speeded up footage showing the fight amongst saplings for the precious light needed to grow and join the adults that form the forest canopy. It made me ponder on what life is like when you remain in one place as plants do. I also liked seeing the birds called 'skims'; their baby chicks are very cute.

Next week it's the Southern Cape, a place I've visited so it will be interesting to see what footage they have from there.
