Crikey, this was hard work!

As the late great BBC Mastermind quiz master Magnus Magnusson used to say "I've started so I'll finish". This is my general approach to movies.

I stuck with this film hoping to find some reason to connect with it. Maybe I just don't operate on the wave-length required but I found this film rather tedious and self indulgent, although this was through no fault of the acting talent involved. To me, it smacked of a vanity project for the director.

How it was awarded a top 5* rating in Radio Times is beyond me.

I completely agree with you.

I have to agree it's self indulgent but it does have some kind of hypnotic quality or rather it did for me and I can understand why it's picked up awards for the score. Very Angelo Badalamenti / Julee Cruise a la Twin Peaks.

I think I saw other posts likening the feel of the film to Peter Greenaway. I tend to agree with that albeit if it was a Greenaway film you can guarantee the 2 actresses would have spent the majority of the film wearing little more than a smile. Greenaway doesn't do subtle with eroticism.

Not a great film but not bad either.
