Probably not everyone will know it's a remake
I didn't know there was an original until I saw in the credits that it was based on a 1979 screen play. Not the most well known film being remade and I suspect many will see this without realising.
shareThe original is a very fine, low-key comedy of the likes we never see today. The characters actually feel like old people you might know and their situation feels real and genuinely dire... it would probably be considered more of a drama these days, because it's pretty sad in places and the ending (without giving too much away) is bittersweet, rather than the kind of straight forward, yet phony happy ending like most modern comedies.
