mmmkay, let's see declandec . I can definitely understand the confusion because some of the actor's real names were used in the film. I was confused too when watching it the first time.
Let's see, okay.
At the beginning, Alex thinks Sam is an actress on a paramedic TV show that he watches(ie, to him, "Sam" is the name of her fake character on the show).
Kind of like how Tom Cruise plays Ethan Hunt in the mission impossible franchise. If I were looking to find "that guy who plays Ethan Hunt", I wouldn't google the fictional character 'Ethan Hunt', but obviously the actor 'Tom Cruise' who plays that role.
And so, when searching for Sam on google(who Alex still thinks is an actress on a show who is playing a character named Sam), he searches for her 'real name', which is Tiffany Mualem(it's only confusing because Jamin Winans actually used her real name in real life).
And so then, when he arrives at her door, Alex's first instinct is to say "Sam", because that's the only way he knows her. But of course he quickly realizes, that's as silly as me showing up at Tom Cruise's house and asking for "Ethan" or another one of his movie-character names.
Here's how Alex thinks:
"Sam"-Character on a Paramedic show
"Tiffany Mualem"-Actress who plays Sam on the show
Does that make sense? Obviously Sam and Alex had to have 'other names', in order so it looked like they were actors on tv shows. And I can only guess that Jamin Winans just thought it would be easier to use their real names than create two completely new names that might even confuse us more.

***One more funny tidbit you probably noticed was when Sam called the production company that was making Alex's cops and robbers show, and when they answer the phone, the company was called "Double Edge Films". That is actually the real name of Jamin and Kiowa Winans film production company. I think they added stuff like that in there as little easter-eggs for the fans. :)
