Why I will not watch this movie

I really liked 'Batman' and I don't get why Michael Keaton would insult his fans by appearing in a movie that denigrates them.

reply

Well, since you've seen it, you totally know that it does, because you know the context of it.

reply

That's one of the most hypersensitive reasons to not watch a movie I've ever seen. To say nothing of the fact that you're assuming a problem with the content of a film you've never seen...

I know it's a movie about an actor who played a popular superhero and now hates the superhero. How could I possibly read anything into that?

reply

It's a movie about an actor who played a superhero and is only known for that role. He wants to be known as more than "Birdman" and to forge his own identity as an actor. It's not that he "hates the character" he hates that people only know him as the character.

I blind bought it for $5 at WalMart, & rate it a sound B.

Technically sharp, it offered me little subjective enjoyment.
I own the dvd though for cheaper than renting via stream.

The character in this movie used to play a superhero in movies and is now trying to be more than that. You won't watch it because Keaton was Batman and you apparently don't want him to be anything else. The irony is strong with this one...

reply

No, I just wish he didn't regret doing Batman and has such disdain for fans of that movie.

reply

He didn't regret doing Batman, he even shows us multiple times he still has his super powers (levitation, telekinetics and the ability to fly).

Had you watched the movie you would have known that.

So no, imo he has no disdain for fans of Batman.

reply

I guess I just can't imagine spending an ounce of angst over what some actor may or may not think about one of his past roles or the fans of that movie. That's what's called "overthinking things."

So you're crying because you think this movie denigrates the two Batman movies Keaton was in? First of all, it kinda really doesn't. Second, it would have been great if this movie actually did take a double barreled shot at not just those Batman movies, but the whole idiotic, overblown, overbloated genre of superhero/comic book movies. Unfortunately, it squandered much of that opportunity.

Keaton is very proud of both of his Batman movies. But this story is interesting, because a lot of action stars have this fear of not being taken seriously. Even Sylvester Stallone went through this 20 years ago. So it's nice to see a movie dealing with it. Maybe it even works as a wake up call to actors who are lucky enough to break through with a superhero movie.
