Theory about time frame

it is my theory that this show is taking place in the future. titans destroyed most of humanity and those that are alive live behind the walls technology is closely guarded the government keeps the knowledge on how the 3D gear works so what about keeping past technology secret.

we know there are religious people in the story so what if they government has full knowledge of past technology but view it as sacrilegious to use such technologies(ie planes, cars, electricity etc etc)

Also i think that there are other nations still in existence behind there own walls

reply

But how would have Titans won if they faced our own technological level and not a 13th century like society?

Unless there was some sort of technological regression first and then Titans attacked upon a weak, disorganised humanity.

Then again technology would have already been lost by then, so I don't know if teh Wall government would even know much about it, past its very vague existence in a remote past.

reply

I always thought that was the case...no resources to use cars or planes (oil drilling) and the weapons because obviously our technology wouldn't defeat them..unless you can think of a weapon that can slice the nape very quickly. Also the guns which seem old fashioned also makes sense because due to their limited resources they can't crank out full autos on an assembly line but rather craft from wood and recycled metals

reply

I'm sorry but what? A cheap Rpg would obliterate a Titan's head altogether.
And what exactly could a Titan even the biggest ones do against a 45 ton tank?

reply

you do realize taking off the head does not do jack *beep* right? They need to cut the nape of the neck, their are plenty of scenes showing titans getting decapitated and they just grow back, and tanks are way too slow and innaccurate, do not get me wrong they could maybe slow down a titan but if the titans can catch people flying across the air, than I am pretty sure they could grab a tank going like what? 20 MPH?

reply

So what you are saying is if the "nape of the neck" is vaporised or itself severed from the body it wouldn't be the same as a precise cut with the blade thingies?

Grab a tank? How are they supposed to stop it or lift?

Are you really trying to argue Titans would defeat a modern military?

reply

It's possible that they could stop a modern military. Their only weak point is the nape of the neck. You cant just shoot it, you have to severe it. I'm pretty sure if you could kill them just by damaging the nape, then the characters would just be shooting at the back of the neck. Would our modern technology slow them down? Oh most definitley, but you got to remember how hard they are to kill. You could pulverize a titan with a tank and missiles but it would not die, and while they are busy shooting at that titan, there are five more coming after you.

And how are they supposed to stop or lift a tank? Are you serious? Even the smaller ones could slow it down, the bigger ones could definitely stop it and maybe even lift it.

Vaporize the nape: how do you suggest they do that? I'm sure its possible but the firepower plus the accuracy plus the time it would take to actual accomplish vaporizing the entire nape is very low.

reply

Yeah that's a major plothole in the series. If it requires severing some kind of spinal cord at the nape of the neck then blowing the head off would be pretty much the same thing.

It's a plot device to make the titans just that more difficult to kill.

You just have to roll your eyes and move past it.

reply

It seems to me that in one of the later episodes (during the mission to plug the hole in the wall with the huge boulder), it was mentioned that they managed to kill some of the titans with cannons. Perhaps you have to hit them in just the right spot to kill them, but if you manage to do so you can do it with cannons and not only blades. I guess.

It's fantasy anyway so it's probably best not to overthink it, but yeah there should be certain consistent rules even in a fantasy world.

reply

Another question would be what would a 45 ton tank, or even several of them do against the Armoured Titan? And do you have any idea the kind of fire power it would take to bring down the 60 meter Colossal titan? If you're not familiar with meters, 60 meters is approximately 200 feet. Not only that, the steam emitted from the Colossal titan is so hot, rounds would explode before impact, lessening the damage they cause, and whatever damage they do cause, will quickly be regenerated.

my only complaint about your theory is that those two titans never show up. Once in how long? So they would usually not be a threat to a modern military, but when they do show up on a battlefield, all of the human forces would be decimated.
