Oh my god what is with the insanely long inner monologs for every damned decision any character makes

Great show, great story, but I don't think I've ever rolled my eyes so many times every episode compared to anything else I've ever watched.

It usually goes like this:

Some other character: Eren! Please help us fight!

Eren: I need to fight the Titans so I can save their lives! Wait....I'm afraid to die! Why am I so afraid? I made a vow to kill all the Titans.

*cue flashback of seeing his mother eaten*

Eren: Garrrrr I hate those Titans! Oh no, while I was cowering in fear, five of my friends were killed! Why did I hesitate? My inaction got my friends killed!

*cue tears of guilt*

Eren: Why am I such a coward?

*cue one of Eren's close friends giving him an inspirational speech*

Eren: (Blank) is right! If I don't help fight we're all going to die anyway!

*cue second motivational speech by friend

*cue another flashback

*cue Eren finally going to fight

I mean, I normally don't mind this sort of thing that helps you understand the emotions and thoughts a person is having, as long as it's not over done. But this show dials it up to 11 for basically every main character regarding even the most insignificant decisions. It gets old really fast to me.

Anyone else get bothered by this sort of thing?

Yes, I'm with you on that. Love this series, but this is one of the things I don't like. Season 1 had a lot of these scenes. Luckily Season 2 only had a few.

But they are back with it in Season 3. Especially the last few episodes. Plus, Jean is still doing it haha.
