Really liked it but would've liked more background

On personal opinion basis, I really liked the movie but on a cinematic level I kind of wanted to see more background on the mom's heritage. I guess I found her character and history more interesting. Obviously, though, that was not what this movie was about - and as it is, I learned a lot about where she was coming from without people having to blurt out long expository dialogue. Instead, everything was expressed via directing, imagery, and implication of dialogue, and that is a sign of a great writer.

However, I think I enjoyed all the scenes focused on the interesting cultural barriers and conflicts and the use of the translator the most-- but the movie ended up being less about that and more about grief and aging, which was just as good as a movie but I guess wasn't quite what I expected beforehand.
