Why can't there be an English movie where Asian men aren't nerdy, girly or gay?
Just so stereotypical and uncreative.
shareJust so stereotypical and uncreative.
shareUm..., I don't think Bruce Lee in any of his English movies was considered nerdy, girly or gay. Rather he became iconic for toughness that many people around the world admire.
shareor middle eastern men portrayed as terrorists
shareI think you're forgetting Jet Li playing a dog in Unleashed.
"Please don't eat me! I have a wife and kids. Eat them!"
Kai was neither nerdy nor girly. He was gay, yes, but that was a pretty big necessity for the storyline. As for being 'stereotypical', that's nonsense. I wasn't aware there was a stereotype with such characteristics.
shareI think you're forgetting who directed this film.
shareNope, I didn't. It actually makes it sadder that only Asians can be successful when they relinquish their Asian background to the other Western extremes. Just wishing for some balance here.
shareHow has he relinquished his background? Hong Khaou moved to Britain when he was 8 years old, he grew up bilingual and westernised, his mother even now doesn't speak English. He's a westernised Cambodian man just like the character who is dead in the film.
look at the films Hong Khau has made previously, the subject matter is obviously something that's close to him, I don't think he has relinquished his background at all. What would you prefer he make films about? he has a film coming up called Monsoon which is about the repercussions of the Vietnam War, maybe you'll like that one more?
in Too Fast Too Furious 3: Tokyo Drift main villain is Asian guy and is badass. its at least one example that i could think of
shareand what is wrong with being nerdy, girly or gay? Far more interesting than dumb, macho and latently homosexual which is how most White Westerners appear.
shareMy thoughts, precisely! Gosh, haven't we seen enough of the white-guy idiot douche: oh, Bradley Cooper leave this body, I COMMAND you!!!! ;-)
