so the writer of this movie thinks people w/ Down Syndrome are 'losers'
This movie was AWFUL.
Just walked out of a movie called Preggoland, showing at Cineplex International Theatre. The trailer I saw last week looked mildly funny so I thought I'd give it a go. 40 minutes into the movie, I was still waiting for a good joke to laugh at....there were none, and I didn't hear a single person in the theatre laugh. The part that got me though was when the main character's sister basically said she though her sister was '½ Down's' and maybe that was why she was 'such a loser'.
Nice, so the people who made this movie equate people with Down Syndrome as losers?! As a supporter of the Canadian Down Syndrome Society, and a very frequent movie goer of two Cineplex theatres where I live, I think Cineplex has really dropped the ball on showing this movie in their theatres.
Don't get me wrong, I am not one of those overly sensitive everything must be politically correct people. I believe there's nothing in life that we can't joke about...we all have differences, and lifestyles, and in the right context, a joke can be made about anything. However, there wasn't any context where the comment in this movie about those with Down Syndrome would be funny...it seemed that line in the movie was simply going for a cheap laugh....and as I said...no in the theatre laughed at that joke or any other joke.
Very sad.
