Sunburns

Saw this interesting movie last night. I like survival films, and I enjoyed this one. Much like "Unbroken", except they weren't captured and tortured by the Japanese. Why didn't they keep their shirts on to protect their bodies? I thought the makeup artists did a great job because those burns and their reddened skin looked very realistic.
