For me as a male this was definitely a psychological horror movie!

As a male this gave me a really creepy vibe. For me there is definitely this element in matriarchy I fear. A kind of passive aggressive tyranny of middle aged women and polite cruelty. Which was kind of expressed with the "praise nature" and thinking that you shouldn't interfere with nature.

I really don't know what to think of the whole story, but I do have to say it's an interesting premise.

Of course it's totally impossible that a mutation would cause all three at the same time (asexuality, parthenogenesis AND male insemination failing) and all three occurring world wide. It's not how evolution works.

And this would be catastrophic for evolution, no more mixing of genes means evolution has basically stopped. Besides random mutations, there is no more selection of genes who are the "fittest" to survive. Genetic engineering would have to be perfected to counter any future need to adapt, but it would leave humanity as a whole very vulnerable to extinction.

But I did I find it funny that the women apparently hadn't invented flatscreen displays or the internet yet lol.

You may have missed it, or didn't think it was really part of the storyline, but it was explained in an offhanded way. If you can recall there was a guy being interviewed that explained how there was a comet or some astrological event that happened to pass by our planet at the same time that the mutation began in 1953. It was supposed to be represented like it was just a conspiracy theory, but I do think that it was supposed to explain how it really started. I think it was snuck in there as a way to explain the unlikelihood of it occurring naturally, and also another juxtaposition of how women and men differ in that a man would try to find the hard science in it, where women just took it for granted that it was just 'natures way'. Anyway, that's my take on it.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, IKR?? That was hilarious. The little TV's, one with little wooden slats as its cover, LOL. And the whole, 'Putting a man on the Moon?? That's just silly!'
However, I don't think it would really happen this way, just becuase there were more women, plenty of women are scientist, gamers, nerds. But yeah, when they were playing Pong, LOL. That was great.

Well of course you just have to accept the premise, suspend your disbelief and go with it.

But just to nitpick, a comet could never do this. Any kind of alien lifeform would not have this highly specific effect on humans. If they even have compatible DNA. But you'd need a kind of virus that targets human reproductive system, rewrites the DNA in the cells there and causes those three changes, and then stay infectious via airborne virus without causing symptoms and getting detected. It's only possible if it was genetically engineered. That is really the only possible explanation, although the tech wasn't advanced enough in the 1950s. And probably not in the present timeline of the movie either haha.

And yeah there are scientists and nerds but they are fewer. There is a genuine male disposition to be creative in the sense of creating new things. Some think it's because men can't have babies and can't create life, and by creating new inventions they "reproduce" in a different kind of way. While impossible to say with any kind of certainty, I think even in completely gender-unbiased environments and cultures you would see this type of difference.

Women would be capable and would step up out of necessity but they are (I believe) just not that interested in silly things like going to the moon :D

This is part of what makes this movie a horror. Some part of the human spirit irrevocably lost. A degenerated race like in planet of the apes or the time machine, just not quite as much.

Oh, I guessed that it was some type of space radiation that caused a mutation. I didn't think it was supposed to be accurate. More like a comic book type of mutation.

Hmmm. ...Well before 1953 the mechanical advantage of our machines had significantly reduced the disparity between the physical force men and women could bring to bear against the predations of nature. I.E. Since the gene for "marksmanship" does not reside on the Y chromosome an armed woman was just as deadly against an attacking enemy as a man. "Rosie the Riveter" et. al had shown that women were capable of "running the show" stateside while men went off to war. Still, we were nice to have around to mow the lawn, lift heavy things, etc., and so "Mother Nature" tolerated our BS.

Then in 1952 the U.S. conducted the first successful test of the hydrogen bomb, followed by the Soviets in 1953 and those lines crossed. The survival value of GENDER (as a way for DNA to recombine) was overtaken by the chance of nuclear annihilation. Mother Nature/God did not want radiation-resistant insects to be the only animal life left on Earth and "sent" the comet to catalyze the switch to Parthenogenesis?[/quote]. Yes, humanity would have a tougher time of it as a genderless species, but we would survive. Moreover by 1950 testosterone injections had come into wide use; "women" would have been able to bulk up for those few, heavy industry/mining jobs where brute physical force was necessary

Elsewhere on this board it has been argued that since "Wars have been waged by female leaders as well, eliminating Men would not solve the problem" Agreed, but Parthenogenesis eliminates both Men and Women.

Yes... interesting but so terrifying...!! becouse with the new artificial insemination techniques it would be possible.

Of course they had, they just weren't going to bother giving those things to second class citizens. Don't worry, men often misunderstand these sort of details. Chin up, you'll get there.
