I find it hard to believe this is a true story, i'm sure some artistic license was taken in certain scenes and characters. I think it was a good film, good acting and storyline even if a majority of it was fictional.

Well in most movies based on true events, based is usually the operative word. They almost always take an artistic license and exaggerate the events. Mainly because the true events weren't exciting enough to warrant actually making a movie about.

^this. The only thing true about this movie is that some very valuable diamonds were stolen and never recovered. I'd say using the term "based on true events" would be stretching the meaning will past it's limits. This is basically a completely fictional story about fictional characters, with a few, mostly superficial, details from a real robbery sprinkled over top of it. Maybe "inspired by true events" would be a more accurate description.
