For god sakes, who cares if some of the stuff is staged. It's the tv show equivalent of going through your local haunted house around Halloween. You aren't getting mad because people are dressed up in costumes are you? Just enjoy the thrill of the show and share the fright of the people on it. Every damn post is complaining... It's entertainment people!

normally aren't there just for 'entertainment' purposes. They want to see
evidence of the existence of ghosts. When the stuff is so obviously
staged it's a pretty huge disappointment.

The problem with what you are trying to draw similarities between is in the perception of them. When you go to your local haunted house you know it's all staged and fake. Syfy is promoting this show as real, and if it is faked they are making a joke of something some people take very seriously and are trying to get others to take seriously as well. It's damaging to something they already feel they are in an uphill battle against to get others to believe in, so I can see where the frustration comes from.
