Credibility Gone - Proof it's staged!

Now, initially, I thought the show was a good idea that could be improved to make it great. After the WV State Pen ep....I'm pretty much convinced it's all a set up.

At the start of the episode, you can see them being driven through dark, scary woods to the prison that's "in the middle of nowhere"....

Well, that'd be great and all, if it was actually in the middle of nowhere. West Virginia State Penitentary is smack bang in the middle of a residential area.

Observe - https://maps.google.com/maps?q=western+state+pennitentiary,+moundsvill +wv&hl=en&ll=39.917011,-80.743525&spn=0.007809,0.016512&am p;am p;am p;sll=41.117935,-77.604698&sspn=7.852221,16.907959&hq=western+ state+pennitentiary,+moundsvill+wv&radius=15000&t=m&z=17&a mp;a mp;a mp;iwloc=A

The show just lost ALL credibility. So has Josh Gates for tying himself to this crap! If they're faking or being "creative" on the location, there's no telling what other stuff they've faked to make it more appealing to an audience.

Shame on you Gates, you too Syfy!

Ahaha that's hilarious. After 3 episodes I've given up that too much is staged. random noises can be anything. After the previous episode of having to go into the basement to get the fuse I was rolling my eyes.

And I said to myself.. the revolving door better not have been moved.. sure enough. That makes 3 episodes out of 3 that have had objects mysteriously open/close/move. If it happened once, it would have been passable.. but every episode..

I don't know. I thoroughly enjoy the show. I think the team's reactions are genuine but I too think the production team probably helps the ghosts here and there. The most obvious to me was when the light went on and then off in another part of the mansion in last week's episode. And the funny thing was that they didn't even go to investigate, just watched it and then went to sleep.
In any case, I still find it entertaining because the place is creepy and they're wandering there in the dark.
The show's for entertainment only, it's not a legit paranormal investigation or anything. And even if it were, it's on TV. There's no way to tell what's real and what isn't, imo.

But the problem is, it masquerades as a "legit paranormal investigation".If they are staging it, or at least "cooking" parts of it - that has a knock on effect to other (truly legitimate shows/evidence) which are trying to prove they aren't staged.

If it is for entertainment purposes only, then they need to make a disclaimer because scripting and tampering with a supposedly "candid" show ruins the credibility of all other projects like this.

I agree Midnight Rainbow,
I feel that the amateur investigator's reaction are real, but the opened window, lights flickering, the voices and FLIR image is so hokey obvious.
But to someone who is unfamiliar to paranormal investigating, they would think that all of this is legit which doesn't reflect a good image on the real Paranormal Investigation community. Which I'm not an investigator, but I have a lot of respect for those who do it honestly.

I totally got shades of MTV's "Fear" with the "scrapbooks" conveniently detailing gruesome facts, etc...obviously set up by the production team. What really gets me is that the show advertises "no camera crew," yet there are upwards of 50 cameras that have been set up around each location...and last week's episode was over the top, what with the "dreaming of hats" (and convenient discovery of vintage hats in random locations) and the basement fuse setup.

Haha, speaking of "Fear," I was sort of playing "I Spy" for the graffiti MTV added in the Sugar Shack of the prison. Even though that show was beyond fake and staged to the max, it was entertaining and I miss it. I always wanted to be on it, but I was just 13-15 when it was on.

In response to another post, I wouldn't say doors opening/closing in each episode denounces the credibility of the show. I mean, the show is obviously staged, just saying. But these are suppose to be some of the most haunted places in America(yet, being into the paranormal since I was 10, I only heard of the prison) and doors opening/closing are a pretty main haunting activity. Though it is odd that almost all the same things have been happening at all the places. Let's assume nothing was set-up, it's like the ghosts had a conference call with each other beforehand and planned out what they were going to do.

Yeah Im still wondering what deserted road they drove up only to end up in a paved parking lot. Seems like a weird way to get to the prison in the middle of town.

reply

heheh, it's funny cause I'm in damn Croatia and even I figured out something was not right with that mountain road. :D The prison thingy has been investigated so many times I'm actually waiting for Red Hot Chili Peppers to check it out next and it was never on the friggin mountain top..yonder. It was bugging me all week.

OMG! I wondered why it always takes them "hours" to get to their remote location...and supposedly they are all alone. If anything happened it would take someone "hours" also to get to them. Why can't they just do this legit? And actually see if anything DOES happen for real? And why lie about it? DO they think we are all complete idiots and wouldn't look this stuff up?
