I don't understand who would watch this

I tuned in to this just to see what it is and am scratching my head. I know there is a ghost hunter series that to me seems utterly ridiculous and boring, but year after year I continue to see commercials so obviously someone is watching it. And this looks like more of the same.

I don't understand why someone would watch this. Is it supposed to be scary? Or funny? To me it's neither and there is nothing suspenseful about it. Can someone explain the appeal? Who is actually watching this and why?

reply

Well the original appeal for me was Josh Gates, he made me pee myself with laughter on Destination Truth. Disappointed to say the least that besides carrying his name it has nothing to do with him :(

As far as paranormal shows in general, some are interesting like Ghost Adventures (they get real stuff sometimes and its edited to be really suspenseful) but not just for the "Oooh, casper!" kinda way either....they sometimes go to historical locations and its neat to see. However, what it boils down to is A. people like to be scared and B. everyone watches it hoping something will happen.

That said, this show was a snoozefest. I spent the first half trying to figure out if the "cast" were just bad c grade actors or real people who were putting on some fake persona for the cameras...it didn't play real. The second half I waited patiently for something, anything to happen...and boy was that a let down.

I was disappointed too, I was hoping for Josh to be involved in more than just name.

Everyone on these shows lately seems like they are auditioning for Paranormal Activity. Shawn was an ass, getting mad at the "ghosts". He begs them to talk to him then gets mad when they try.

I always like to see the history of the places too. But they had to put their food away so we didn't get a lot of that o_0. I would have liked to see more of the graveyard, those headstones were interesting.

I just wish someone would have gotten pushed down, that would make it all worth it.

reply

I would say not a lot of people. Ratings are absolutely terrible.

reply

never heard of this, till I turned on my TV a bit ago.
3 minutes was all I could stand. where do they come up with these people!?!?!?
what a boring bunch, I bet the ghosts were bored and stayed in hiding.

reply

Same reason you watch Dancing with the Stars: to be entertained. Shocking I know.

reply

Ok that's fair. But can you help me understand what you find entertaining about this. You may not like DWTS but I could definitely tell you what I find entertaining about it. But I seriously don't comprehend what people find entertaining here. It's a serious question.

reply

Imo, the people who find this entertaining watch it as a horror movie or something. That's how I watch it. I don't mind that there are things that are probably fake and staged, it doesn't take away from the excitement for me. The creepy locations, noises, being cut off from the world, the fact that they think it's real and react accordingly... all add to the entertainment.
When you watch a movie you know that it's not real, yet you can still get into it and enjoy it. Same thing here for me.
I think only the people who are looking for some sort of an evidence of ghosts in these shows can get disappointed. Nothing on tv will be a proof of anything, imo. You can fake, stage or CGI practically anything, so how can one tell what's fake, what's real. I just lean back and enjoy it for what it is. And in this regard it's exactly like DWTS: entertainment.

Thanks for your explanation and the above statement has helped me get it a bit. I think what's always annoyed me is that the hosts/narrators present these show as an uncovering of the truth about ghosts, hauntings, etc. The reality is that they're not proving anything but are just setting up a scenario, providing some history to get people spooked and then filming people's reactions. People love scaring their friends to see them jump so as long as I stop looking for real science and just laugh at them I'll be good.

reply

Oh, yes, you do need the set up to -- just like the team -- get spooked ahead of time and get ready for what's coming. Half of the fear is coming from your own imagination.

Imo, if someone really wants to know what's going on, they should go to a place that is said to be haunted and do their own investigation with a recorder or camera. That's the only way to be sure that what you capture is real.

I wanted to change the channel, but I couldn't find the remote. I think maybe a ghost hid it.

I don't understand why people like you come to places like this and say crap like that..

Why don't you go to the My little pony page and bitch at them for liking Pony's

I think your question is dumb and designed to piss people off and incite a reaction.
If your going to play dumb then fine we can lay it out for you but i get the feeling your not looking for an answer to your question, rather your looking for a platform to battle your ignorance of the paranormal.

When your dead and floating above your body or something i hope you feel like a huge jerk LOL

People like you and this cookie cutter formulaic bs amuses me though so by all means fire off some more crap.. keep me entertained lol
