Auditions? Scripted?

If there were auditions and videos sent in to the producers by the participants to take part in the show, how come it wasn't announced anywhere to let SyFy fans know? Unless I missed something...

I'm already sensing FAKE.

reply

Not fake. I actually work with one of the girls that was on the show tonight. All legit.

reply

How the heck did they manage to sleep there? I'd be shaking in a corner the whole time. lol

The word experiment in the shows description lets me know its a setup type thing from the beginning. The participants may think it's real but when they used the word experiment it told on themselves. Shame on you Josh Gates!

reply

Come on.. you cannot sincerely believe this complete and utter *beep*

Star Island is a resort in the summer, there is nothing deserted or mysterious about any part of it. The Hotel is just not staffed for half a year, that is all. I hope that show gets stranded for messing up its own bad bad concept.

reply

Not sure if anyone else watched the tv show Scariest Places on Earth which used to air. This show is the same basic concept. Bring in everyday people to a scary place and have a crew of workers make noises to scare the people.

reply

I suspect fake also. Or fake from a production standpoint, but real for the participants who never see the guy banging on the wall. They arent in on the gag.

It seems like they pre-scared the team by telling them ghost stories off camera. If they would've just thrown people in an empty building, they might go and investigate what made that sound and end up finding a crew member.
Id check it out. For all I know the place is about to explode.
But if I was told it was haunted, I might not want to check it out so quickly. Or at least start drawing conclusions. And then end up freaked out...just like the people on this show.

So I agree with the other poster that said "its an experiment", and therefore its a setup.

Tonight's episode seemed mega scripted!

reply

It was spooky for sure but at the same time I giggled b/c the three 20somethings did the ghost hunting like seasoned professionals with their voice recorders and pausing after each questions. Also, while the house was creepy the fact is it looked nicely remodeled. At least Scariest Places on Earth had locations which were legit scary like Dracula's castle in Romania.

reply

I was wondering just how much training these kids got too. I mean you cant just dump some people at a place with equipment theyve never seen and expect them to use it.
A radio is one thing, but a flir camera takes some training to use and interpret.

Did anyone notice the surveillance camera placement? Why is there one in the bathroom? What freak put one there? And right at the bathtub too! Right where a cute girl was bathing!

reply

BB998- I completly agree!! What kind of person, puts cameras IN the BATHROOM?? ESPECIALLY so close to that BATHTUB!! I wonder if that girl actually KNEW about THAT one!! If there was ANY "creepy" factor- THAT has MY vote!!

The location, Seaview Terrace, was used for exterior location shooting in the early days of the old soap Dark Shadows, as Collinwood. Fans of the soap know it and make pilgrimages to the location. Funny how this show never mentioned any of that. SyFy's Ghost Hunters went to Seaview last year and must have investigated a different part of the mansion, as the areas they were in were fully furnished.

I call blatant producer interference on this show. There were so many things that seemed pulled from Dark Shadows episodes:

Having to replace a fuse in the dark
Door slowly opening on its own
Finding the perfume and later smelling it strongly in the house
Seeing lights on in another part of the house from the window
The piano near the window
The tree swing
Chopping wood and building a fire (fires always blazed at Collinwood)
Finding the hat
Finding the coffin sized storage trunk, the lid of which looked exactly like the lid of Barnabas' coffin
Hearing music
The double doors violently flying open on their own

The whole show was bogus and pulled one over on viewers not familiar with Dark Shadows. I only watched this episode to see "Collinwood" today.

Good post, oneiroi. I recognized "Bradley Mansion" immediately as the Carey Mansion of Dark Shadows fame and came here to see if anyone else had picked up on it. SO we have our answer about this show. It is scripted and is set up. Moving on now to the next faked paranormal offering from SyFy....

You're right, no human being would stack books like this.

A huge thanx to every poster on this page! You nailed it bang-on!! It was too 'coincidental' of MANY MANY things from Dark Shadows!! Agree, shame on the producers, shame, shame!! I certainly do not give it long before it's cancelled! I'd REALLY enjoy it if they brought back (to my area anyway) the show mentioned (scariest places,I think)- you mentioned it had Dracula's actual castle. I'm in Canada, so all I can find is the SPACE channel. SO far, I've enjoyed many of the shows described on SYFY. MAYBE some day. Thanx again to ALL POSTERS on this page, you're reasonable, well grounded AND very honest!!

It could drag on for awhile and not get cancelled. Just look at haunted collector! How does that show keep going?

It does have a fake feeling. I mean, they always have one who believes, one who does not and one in between. Plus, they walk in and say here is our equipment and know how to use all the stuff. I can't be 100%, but I think some of that stuff may take time to learn. When they see a figure and you see red and yellow, I get a feeling that it is someone standing there. Notice you ever see a figure of an actual ghost nor do you see anything when they are walking around or showing the outside of the location. The fact that they read stuff about the location BEFORE they even start looking makes me think it is meant to psych them out. Make them believe they are seeing things.

Lets rethink things for a moment. Think of people who search for ghosts and what have you for a living. I think they would say that a normal day is seeing nothing and that when they DO see something it is a very rare and special thing. If normal people were sat in front of a camera for some time and people listened to them, they would be so bad at talking and probably repeat themselves again and again. Maybe it seems scripted because the dialog is so average. How would 3 normal people act if sent to a place that was said to be haunted? I think that is part of the show. On the last episode, you can hear that lady say "I am and then her name." THAT was amazing. I can see a network risking getting into trouble for saying something is real and having it all be fake. Plus the fact that the people there did not even hear that being said. It was the producers and other members of the network who caught that. More than likely they are given simple equipment and told how to use it. Maybe they send them information about it, you know? Some people said it is always easy to find the kitchen. Think about that. Do you think they would have them go into a part of the location that was around nothing? There entrance is more than likely at the main point of their location. I really believe that this seems so fake for the simple fact that it is so real. Humans say they are all different, but in reality, many would react the exact same way. Hell, let them send in 3 Navy Seals. See how they react.

Someone killed me in 03. I do not think they meant it. But they did. I was in a coma for 6 weeks and woke up blind. I got about 8% of my vision back. I went and talked to my dad and God. Since then, I can see and feel things. One example is the day before Whitney Huston died, the night before, I started singing one of her songs. I never listen to her. But I started. The next day I was in the hospital for like 5 hours. I just did not feel good. One of the nurses asked me if I liked her. I replied "no, I think she is going to die today." Later that night, my mom and I stopped a show on DVR and the news came on and said, find out how Whitney Houston died today. I mom screamed and it made me jump. I did not know how or when. But I just get these feelings. It happened other times as well. I have a connection to another level of life. That being said, if those who make this show would put something out telling people who to try out or what ever, I believe I would connect with the history and those left behind much differently than most would.

Just watched the 6 episodes back to back.

Obviously choreographed to start a chain of events.

As far as I can tell, the only real paranormal activity captured were the 2 photos that were taken at Yorktown Memorial Hospital. One had a picture of a face said to be that od a drug addict called "Tommy". And the other picture had "a demon" on it.

The difference between that show and Stranded, is that John Zaffis is respected within the paranormal community as being an expert.
