They keep hinting that Muriel would be dead!

But she doesn't. It's such a cheap tactic to play on our emotions.

it is. That plot line makes no sense - if Muriel has got something wrong with her, why isn't she having tests, being in hospital etc? it seems very ulikely that she would go for a routine checkup, be told "oh, you're going to die, goodbye" and that's that. it simply isn't the way they do things nowadays.

reply

Now that I just learned about Muriel. . ...maybe she already knows what is the matter and has chosen to just let it play thorough. When it gets near the end she may ask for some morphine or something on the order of assisted suicide. Who knows?

Unless you're not a coward and are happy to accept death when it comes.

reply

nonsense. there is nothing cowardly about accepting medical treatment. there isn't much nowadays they can't do anything about. the whole Muriel story made no sense, but neither did anything else in this film.

just because the character is given the death nod doesn't mean they have to die on screen

I think it's meant to imply a vaguely Hindu/Indian deal... she goes somewhere for a gentle ritual suicide.

Evelyn got the hint: "You will be missed, you must know that".
