Jean personality

I personally got the impression Jean was a snob but I think it was to hide how lonely she was.

Jeans as not a nice person at all.

i agree. at first i wanted to punch her smug face but then it so easily hides so many things

I am sympathetic to her being, lonely, but that's really no excuse to treat other people horribly. There was no reason to be so antagonistic. Douglas is a great guy for wanting to deal with their issues. I'm surprised he didn't want to leave first (which shows what kind of a sweet, good guy he really is). Admittedly, I havn't seen the first movie yet (I got it in the mail today), so I can only go off of what I know from that movie and what I saw in this one.

I hope you finally got to watch the first movie. It was WONDERFUL, and it does do a decent job of explaining/showing Jean's personality (and his comment to the Concierge regarding the necessity of pasteurized milk being so important will make much more sense. I had a huge smile on my face when he said that). Nastiness is simply who she is. She makes very clear her opinion of her husband's "failings" early on in the film, in spite of what a wonderful human being he is (in comparison to her), and throughout the first film, my heart broke for him, which is why when she came back in the second, I wanted to beat the crap out of her. She's actually worse in this regarding her nastiness than in the first.
