Mum is looking for something to see at the cinema but hasn't seen the first one. I did see the first and think she would enjoy it but she doesn't have time to watch the first one before going to the cinema (she is going while I'm at a gig - mother taxi service!) If she goes to see the second one does it reference the first film the whole way through or would she be ok?

I've just been to see it this evening. Didn't even know it was a sequel till about 10 mins ago. I think it works well by itself.
shareHaving finally just seen the second one tonight, yes, you can watch the second without watching the first. In fact, those who have not seen the first might be better off, because having seen the first and the second, it left me highly confused throughout much of the movie on why certain things were occurring as they were, as opposed to how they SHOULD have been after having seen the first.
I will say this, however, I really, REALLY could have done without Jean's return. I love Penelope Wilton. She's a FABULOUS actress, but I HATE Jean, and really, a letter from her stating she wanted a divorce, delivered through the daughter would MORE than have sufficed!

Better to watch the first one. It is a much better film than this one.
