Just how old is Bill Nighy's Douglas supposed to be? In the movie Judi Dench says she is 79 (which is close as she is 80), and although she is aging well and looks good for her age, it is so obvious Bill Nighy (age 66) is so much younger. Would they pair Richard Gere (who is the same age as Bill Nighy) with Judi Dench? Maybe I'm being too picky.

shareI did think that Judi Dench's character was meant to be a few years younger than that. I was surprised when she said she was 79. In the original novel, evelyn is only 72, only a few years older than Douglas. Not such a large gap.
shareI hate to be "that woman", but they've been doing the same thing with older men and younger women in movies (and life) for decades. One instance in one movie shouldn't be that big of a deal.

sharemy mother (aged 82) is married to a man 12 years her junior and only 12 years older than me (her eldest child)....and they have just celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary. So whatever your thoughts may be on older women/younger men type relationships, I am here to tell you that they happen and they last very successfully. Maybe you could try to rethink your prejudices...who knows, love may happen to you too
yeah, but he's in India. he could probably get some lovely young Indian woman - someone lower caste who wants to better herself perhaps.
