wow that fight wasn't scripted at all

Don King would have been proud of those judges after this fight. I will not be watching a second season if it even gets renewed. Anyone with half a brain who watched this could have told you that Steampunk did more damage, and got in more hits and should have won. But winning in 3 rounds wouldn't have been good tv, hence the scripting to make sure the fight went 5 rounds. The first 2 rounds, especially the second should have went to Steampunk. The broken actuator and all the turning points that occured(Steampunk's broken actuator, broken fists with 1 or 2 seconds left, Crash failing to get their arm on in time) were scripted to make sure the fight went 5 rounds. This show is a slap in the face to true robotic competition shows like Battlebots, Crash only won because of their design and not Amber and Dave. All of the robots fists were to large to get inside the plexiglass/roll cage not to mention that using their broken arms as a flail did more damage to the other robots than actually punching them did. Who ever got assigned Crash was gonna win if they threw enough punches. The only way I would watch is if for next season, all the contestants were given a body kit to start and let the contestants build them themselves.

Yep Steampunk got royally hosed, they wanted that annoying girl and father to win it from the start, half the fights with crash in it were screw jobs. Steampunk hands down won the first 3 rounds, the whole scoring system is flawed. If hand is broken you should lose points for taking damage but no twice they got a perfect 30 which is suppose to mean they took no damage and means they had a lot of hits. I am sad to see this happen because the idea was so great, but adding this to the mix of rigging the scorring is unbearable. There wont be a successful season 2 because scripted robot fights is more boring then watching paint dry.

reply

Haha, are you kidding me? Crash won all five rounds, the only reason they gave two to steampunk was to make up for the hour long show.

Let's imagine that it's a legit tie in the final round. In that final round one robot gets a hand knocked off, the other one takes no damage beyond dimpled armor. Somehow the judges give the win to the robot that lost the hand. WTF?

Both robots lost a hand in the final round.

IMO, Crash won the first three rounds, so they should have won right there. But no doubt that didn't make for good TV, so they gave round three to Steampunk instead. But I thought Steampunk won the last two rounds. But they still had to be fair to Crash since they hosed them earlier to prolong the fight. Plus I think they wanted to push the father/daughter team.

So to summarize, I thought Crash won the first three rounds, and Steampunk the last two. And definitely these were the two toughest robots in the competition, with the possible exception of Scorpio.

I agree completely. Crash won the first three rounds hands down (no pun intened). The sheer number of hits delievered by Amber far outdid those by Ashley. The judges gave the third round to Steampunk solely to keep the fight going, especially seeing all the damage Crash had to fix. That meant that team Crash likely wouldn't get all of it done and thus give Steampunk a good chance to tie it up and have a fifth round. Short of a catastrophic failure, the judges were not going to let either team win in just three rounds. Funny, I thought that even with just one hand, team Crash kept round 4 close, and given the handicap of one hand, IMHO they outfought team Steampunk.
BTW, I am not a Steampunk hater either. These two teams were the ones I pulled for the most all throughout the entire competition. I was glad that both made it.

They SOOOOO should've made this a half hour show...

And yes, once again we learn that robot boxing is as fake as human boxing & wrestling. Them giving the first two round to Crash was all about drama so Team Steampunk would go "Oh no! If we lose round three it's all over!". Likewise, when a robot catches fire you should put it out immediately, not let it burn for most of a minute for show.

And no Amber, you're not acting like a total drama queen at all...

you know as much as there may be scripting in reality shows, theyre editing afterwards, but they only use the footage of what actually, so they always edit the video and voice to suggest something one thing is going to happen and then the opposite happens, so it feels scripted, for maximun surprise.

should crash get as many points for hitting with a broken flailing arm/fist NO, they won cos the arm could go lower and swing into the body. they should have lost steampunk kept it together more.

reply

Their arm broken in almost every fight and that should not keep them from getting points. She broke it by hitting the other robot almost every time and it was the one weakness of Crash and she used it to their advantage.

reply

the arm broke i presume because of their hard mounted armor, that was a stated weakness of their robot, they had to be aware of it and worked around, it shouldn't be ignored when they exacerbate their weak point.

reply

I agree with most of what you said, except, if a robot catches fire... heck yes you let it burn.

reply

I agree 100%

reply

I don't even get why they had rounds and judging. They're robots. They should've just let them fight until one breaks. The sparks flying everywhere and the stupid dramatic editing really ruined what could've been an interesting show. Well, that plus the women yapping and whining all the time. I'm sure it was hard enough to fix a giant broken robot in twenty minutes without some shrill harpy incessantly running her mouth the whole time about how they need to hurry and what YOU'RE doing wrong and what YOU need to do and HURRY UP because WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME and I'm crying and oh, no! I'm going to faint!!! Please pay attention to me but fix the robot too because I need to win because my life is so hard!!! WAAAHHHH!!!!

reply

Hahaha! Awesome observation.

But I do like the show though, and hopes its much beter next season.

reply

but she was right they did run out of time.

reply

Definitely agree that it was scripted to go 5 rounds, however overall Crash still deserved to win. I thought Steampunk won the 1st round even though they gave it to Crash, but Crash won the 3rd round 100%, but they gave it to Steampunk to keep the rounds going. The 5th round could have gone either way.

What I dislike the most is that it was obvious from the first episode that these two teams were going to be in the finals, since the people were featured and shown more than anyone, even in fights they weren't involved in, and they kept referencing the girl's son and how badly she needed it, as well as the father and daughter team.

Also, there was no skill needed. These two robots were the toughest out of the bunch, and it didn't matter who was controlling them they still would have made it to the finals.

The show was still entertaining overall, I watched every episode, but it needs a lot of improvement in its presentation. Not really sure I want a second season, unless there are huge changes.

Steampunk didn't do much damage at all. The only damage Crash ever took was self-inflicted as a result of having really weak joints that snapped after the first swing. Other than that, Steampunk did no damage to Crash.

> Crash only won because of their design and not Amber and Dave.

Yup. Crash was destined to win right from the start. Its roll-bar armor was perfect for this game. It could easily absorb hits from any angle with no damage. I mean, that's the whole point of actual roll cages in race cars. The other robots had simple thin plates of metal held on by a couple of bolts that could easily be knocked off.

And Crash's arms turned out to be more useful broken than when they started. They became effective little wrecking balls once they were broken at the elbow. When any other robot's arm broke, they usually just fell off or broke at the shoulder, making them useless.
