Wait-- that's it??

I kept waiting for another episode to air; I didn't realize it was only 3 episodes. I was interested in the show but I definitely didn't think that was the actual ending. So, the girl drowned? And that's the ending?

Think more about the circumstances leading to her death, and the culpability of the townspeople in bringing about those circumstances...

reply

One person is culpable......her mother

She wouldn't have drowned if it weren't for the television floating in the water, so technically Simon is also at fault.

The last Edward I read about had a crazy wife locked in the attic

Yeah -- poverty, joblessness, crappy education, too few drug-treatment services, too little healthcare -- that has nothing to do with it.

I worked in a meth clinic for 3 years; every day, I took at least 10 calls from people who wanted treatment but couldn't find it, because in my city there's only one slot for every 10 addicts (and that was typical thruout the country at the time). I got to know the patients. They're *people*, just people like you and me; most were raised in circumstances that would destroy everyone, and they were doing the best they could. (Did you find the the addict mother's little boy to be likable? I did. Well, who do you think he's going to be in 10 years, after being kicked around the system? Not his fault that his mother was an addict, but he's going to pay for it. And that's how it is with virtually every addict -- they have a back story that hurts like hell.)

The reason the world is a mess is because too many people think that simple answers suffice. They don't. Life is complicated and messy; we should help each other, not turn our backs on one another. And if you *still* didn't understand that after watching this drama, then I feel deeply deeply sorry for you.

Everyone who voted to give the house back to the Sweetloves is at fault.

Well, I guess I don't need to watch it now. Thanks a lot.

reply

You don't even know which girl drowns. 

reply

Well the thread title kind of indicated the ending would be mentioned.

I got this from Netflix and I thought it was excellent. I don't get why they would not continue with it.

reply

No reason to continue with it. The story was told.

If this is from a J.K.Rowling novel, it must be the antidote to that mary sue Harry Potter.
