Just saw it on Netflix and it was a pleasant surpise, did't expect much but it was actually well made.

Yeah. I watched it today, and it was good. Also gave it a 7. My first experience with Mexican cinema, and pretty much just because I'm a major history geek (especially American Civil War) and so am interested in the subject matter, so gave it a try. I thought it was well-written and well-acted, well-scored, one of the leads, Juan, wasn't quite sympathetic enough but was tolerable, really liked their depiction of General Prim, the Spanish statesman. The biggest downside is that it was really poorly shot. Color was muted and way too much handcam, even in the slow interior shots, to the point where I don't know if they eve used a dolly or anything. Watch it, I think it's worth your time; if it's worth the headache from the camera work is up to the viewer. Particularly the non-Spanish (and non-French) speaking viewer, as you're trying to read subtitles and deal with all of this unsteady camera at the same time.

If you're a history buff and would like to watch another film about Latin American history, I highly recommend 'The Liberator' (2013), a film about South American independence hero Simon Bolivar. It's very well made and definitely worth watching.

I just saw it today and looking at the other comments it seems the movie had been on Netflix for a while. Unfortunately the 13 of January 2017 was the last day it is on Netflix. I guess I caught it in time and I'm happy i did. A really good movie.
