Hmmm...
I think much of that fan mail comes from those who like the idea of a small production company putting one over on the Big Bad Hollywood Industry Machinery. Which is fine by me. I think Hollywood has gotten quite arrogant with their assumption that they can release these one hundred million dollar productions and count on an addicted to movie theater going audience to make them a profit. They have no problem with making re-boot after re-boot and cannibalizing their own movies. So a little company like Asylum handing them their a** by making imitations at a fraction of their budget is really amusing.
Once I discovered that these movies were Mock-busters, I started to enjoy them and seek them out. But my first encounter with one of Asylum's movies ( THE DAY THE EARTH STOPPED) and the realisation that I'd been hoodwinked was not a pleasant experience initially.
Yes, I thought the production design on JACK THE GIANT KILLER was a cut above Asylum's other product.

I agree with you about the audience being foremost, and the director of this film (Mark) really does care about his audience, his work for the Asylum is way above the level of some of their other films.
I don't like the argument that people are mislead into thinking this is the $200million movie out in the cinema - are people really stupid enough to believe it's the same film and it comes out instantly in the stores?
The cover is designed to look similar yes, but only so much as "maybe this is SIMILAR to that film in the cinema"...
The Asylum doesn't get many complaints, a lot of people like their movies, they get a lot of fanmail
