The Ass-sylum strikes again...

These d!ckheads are gonna cause the Apocalypse--- God is going to give up hope on the human race if we let these losers continue in business.

*Forgive them Lord, they know not what they do, or what they're doing, or how to make a popcorn flick that looks like they spent more than $39.95 on the whole pathetic mess.*

these people hate movies that's the only explanation for the pieces of excrement they release.

Yeah, it was pretty bad. When ever I watch one of these Asylum productions I always wonder how they continue to get funding for each new movie.

This is just conjecture, but I think this production company is in the red and the owners must be some multi-millionaire movie geeks who produce these movies as a hobby.

I've worked for the Asylum on a few productions in the UK (Sherlock Holmes, Jack the Giant Killer) and I've honestly got to say they're probably some of the nicest people around.

Yes, the movies are cheap, but the crew always have a fantastic time making them, and the films always turn a profit.

They're made by people who genuinely love films, even if they do try to capitalise a little on their bigger brothers.

Perhaps everyone involved in the production is having fun and that is all well and good. Everyone should do work that they love and enjoy.

The issue is that the audience should be in mind first and foremost. People are spending their money and time (most important) expecting to be entertained. Yes, I know the movies are making money, but I suspect only because the audience has been mislead into thinking the movie was other than it actually was.

I agree with you about the audience being foremost, and the director of this film (Mark) really does care about his audience, his work for the Asylum is way above the level of some of their other films.

I don't like the argument that people are mislead into thinking this is the $200million movie out in the cinema - are people really stupid enough to believe it's the same film and it comes out instantly in the stores?

The cover is designed to look similar yes, but only so much as "maybe this is SIMILAR to that film in the cinema"...

The Asylum doesn't get many complaints, a lot of people like their movies, they get a lot of fanmail

Hmmm...

I think much of that fan mail comes from those who like the idea of a small production company putting one over on the Big Bad Hollywood Industry Machinery. Which is fine by me. I think Hollywood has gotten quite arrogant with their assumption that they can release these one hundred million dollar productions and count on an addicted to movie theater going audience to make them a profit. They have no problem with making re-boot after re-boot and cannibalizing their own movies. So a little company like Asylum handing them their a** by making imitations at a fraction of their budget is really amusing.

Once I discovered that these movies were Mock-busters, I started to enjoy them and seek them out. But my first encounter with one of Asylum's movies ( THE DAY THE EARTH STOPPED) and the realisation that I'd been hoodwinked was not a pleasant experience initially.

Yes, I thought the production design on JACK THE GIANT KILLER was a cut above Asylum's other product.

Wait..What?! :D

What planet do you live on? Or more correct, what do you work with on The ASSylum? Get real, douche...

I don't work for the Asylum. I have met a lot of the guys and worked on some projects with them but I am not a full-time salaried employee. I work freelance.

Oh come on. These leaches just try to swindle the unsuspecting into paying for a different movie. Jack the Giant Slayer cost nearly $200 M, and these rip-off artists rush out a bargain-basement crap-fest called Jack the Giant KILLER, that doesn't even spring for movie GIANTS? And they make a cover poster similar to the Hollywood version? These guys should be arrested for copyright infringement or attempt to defraud the movie-renting public.

I hope people get together for a class-action lawsuit.

I couldn't agree with you more. But Asylum is not the first company to do this. Many Italian slock movies made during the eighties were rip-off copycats of big budget Hollywood sci-fi movies such as ALIEN and STAR WARS. Despite the ridicule and contempt these efforts received they are still fun to watch such as the movie STAR CRASH.

I have no problem at all with people putting out cheap copies. It's a free country and it IS fun to watch such cheap garbage from time to time. But my issue is with their obvious attempt to TRICK people into renting or buying their product instead of the one they really wanted.

You're right. It is dishonest. I'm sure there have been many family night movie viewing experiences that have been a disappointment because father or mother unknowingly picked the wrong DVD suggestions of their children because of the similarity in package design and titles.

Good call!

As the Asylum have said countless times, nobody thinks "Jack the Giant Killer" is anything to do with Jack the Giant Slayer. The films have nothing in common other than the similar titles and artwork. All they do is piggyback on the huge publicity machine for the bigger budget film... (e.g. Jack the Giant Killer gets huge word-of-mouth and ratings for Syfy from people tuning in to see if it's as good or better than the big budget version)

Also, it's not nearly as bad as what big studios have been doing for years - releasing films with almost the exact same premise around the same time. E.g. Olympus Has Fallen/White House Down, Deep Impact/Armageddon, Dante's Peak/Volcano, A Bug's Life/Antz, Finding Nemo/Shark Tale, Despicable Me/Megamind... I could go on.

Dreamworks Animation (not the live-action dept.) has practically made its money just seeing what Pixar has in production and making a film with a similar premise/logline. The only difference is they spend hundreds of millions tricking people into thinking their films are as good or better, whereas the Asylum only spends hundreds of thousands and they genuinely love making films.

"My life is too much like Curb Your Enthusiasm."

reply

The difference is Asylum obviously attempts to deceive people into selecting the wrong movie. It's the only explanation for some of the obviously similar promotional material and titles, as well as the timed release date.

reply

Thing is, to me Asylum aren't any different from Jason Freidberg and Aaron Seltzer the guys behind the Scary Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster movie, Superhero movie franchises.

reply

I did a ten gig download and found out it is this crap, i wish they would go back to work in McDonald and leave the films alone.

reply

Yep, these guys should be tortured for all their crappy productions, unbelievable badly made rubbish, but I guess thats how it is when they are swimming at the shallow side of the gene pool... :D

reply

I've heard all of their films make money. Many of them are on netflix. I think they are in for the long haul.
