You're right. He shouldn't "feel bad." He should feel like an *beep* Being an administrator to a school, and dealing with lame excuses is no excuse to ever hassle a student.
My middle school vice principal was the same way. Then one day she hassled a student whom I will call Eric. Told him he was faking sick to go home too much and to not go to bother the nurse any more for the rest of the school year. Eric mom and dad got involved and showed her the diagnosis of peptic ulcers. They took it to the school board and the vice principle was put on administrative leave for the remainder of the year.
The principal was trying to encourage him to stay in school. Nothing to feel bad about. Education is his only way out of poverty.
Perhaps Harley's guardians should feel bad for buying him cigarettes which in turn caused the tumor.
