Why the sudden deviation?

The series was really quite faithful to the book (with a few exceptions) till the final episode! Why on earth did they suddenly begin to deviate from the excellent, EXCELLENT ending? I felt kind of cheated at the end. I watched it and and loved it till the last episode. Thoughts?

Also, off-topic, but Mr. Segundus may be the cutest thing to ever happen. :)

I didn't read the book. I would imagen they changed the end because they plan to write a series. Probably made more sense that way.
