Thi is the prequel for Cloverfield and the Sequel for 10CL.
JJ is going to say no, but we know it is.
I think it's a prequel to both, I think the first two films happened somewhat simultaneously and this will show how the attack started.
(Remember Howard in 10CL describing how attacks are carried out).
If it is, I hope it is only tentatively linked like the other titles (without being so insultingly blatant a cash-in rewrite as 10 Cloverfield Lane was), than trying to shoehorn a prequel for a movie that stands alone just fine.
Half the fun is the mystery surrounding the creature, and leaving enough to the imagination.
Can't be a prequel to cloverfield and be a sequel to 10CFL. Cloverfield took place in 08, and 10CFL takes place in 2015. Nowhere near the same time.

shareCloverfield was "the first wave" referenced in 10CL, so this will only be a prequel to the first one.
