Seriously who wrote the storyline on this site?

Is the person 7 years old?

They are not even close to what is going to happen on this show. No H2O people are envolved.

reply

I think it was someone writing what they hope will happen, with zero knowledge or research. IMDB being a wiki, virtually anyone can change info on pages.

And just like that, I update the description to the wikipedia description. It may take a couple weeks to process though.

Sadly, it doesn't seem to be that far off. As of yesterday, according to Deadline ( http://www.deadline.com/2013/06/netflix-adds-another-kid-targeted-original-series-with-h20-spinoff-mako-mermaids/ ):

All 26 half-hour episodes of Mermaids, from Jonathan M. Shiff Prods., will premiere July 26 in the US and the streaming service’s other territories. The series centers on teenage Zac, who is camping on Mako Island and is secretly watched by three young mermaids tasked with guarding the isle. After an encounter with magical water, he becomes a fish-tailed merman, causing problems for the mermaids.

I'd like to know what happened to the girls. (Why couldn't we just get a fourth season? Or even some kind of "prequel" where we get period episodes of various Mako Mermaids from the past?)

I want to know how they will connect it to H2O... I mean why are there suddenly pods and pods of mermaids around Mako when during h2o there were none??

reply

Where are you getting the pods information from? This is what the IMDB summary says:

During a trip to Mako Island, 16-year-old Zac gets in touch with the water of the magic Moon Pool in a night of full Moon, gaining a mermaid tail and the power to manipulate water. Sirena, Nixie and Lyla, three mermaids who guard Mako Island, are sent to mainland by their fellow mermaids to deprive Zac of his powers, otherwise they will be forever banned from the island.

I agree that it doesn't make sense given the established canon of the original series: first of all (if the IMDB summary is accurate), who are these new mermaids and what happened to the ones from the original series? Secondly, if Zac accidentally becomes a merman, does he only have Cleo's power (manipulating water) or is this bad wording in the summary? If he only does have one of the three powers, why? When Charlotte was the only one in the pool and became a mermaid, she was granted all three powers. This always suggested to me that this pool only grants those three powers and splits them up depending on how many people are in the pool at the time.

So far we've only seen either three people or one person in that pool at a time. I wonder how the three would be split up if two people were in the pool? Or four? Would two people have to "share" a power, like only being able to wield it in tandem? Actually, that would make a hell of a lot better storyline than the one presented as the official one.

I still think, with a name like Mako Mermaids, the best idea would've been to explore past Mako Mermaids. Like each episode is a standalone, focusing on the life of Mako Mermaid or Mermaids (or Mermen) from different eras. Kind of like how they explored the three girls who owned the lockets in the first season, but instead they show that those girls weren't the first Mako Mermaids, there have been a long history of them over time.

In the trailer they mentioned pods and showed larger groups of mermaids looking up at the moon...

I just finished the first half of the 1st season on Netflix and I'd probably not call it a spin off. It's more like they took a few things from H2O but it's completely separate. There is really not connection between H2O and Mako Mermaids storywise.

I didn't realize a trailer was out already. Is it on Netflix? YouTube?

Just watched it. I'm baffled about how there are mermaids that have never been on land before and don't know about the contemporary world. Also, we're bringing Poseidon into this now? Ugh, I hope they don't make this all about how a merman created all merpeople or some crap.

In mythology, mermaids have been around since explorers started sailing on the oceans so it's not unfathomable to think their couldn't be actually pure mermaids. Most mammals/fish migrate due to weather changes or available food in the area. In the U.S. it happens at least 50% of the time that college students will go to college more than 1-2 hrs away. Far enough to not live at home. During the show, the gang usually went to the same areas a lot to hang out. Maybe the pier/restaurant is on the other side of town but still close enough Mako.

Most likely it's the theory that he was by himself and not in a group of 3.

Migrating is my best guess and possibly the most logical.

I think we all need to take a beat. I think that the creators of the show are using H2O as more of a template for this new show. It is a show about Australian mermaids period. Who cares if it is not a prequel or a spin off. Y can't we just let it be what it is, a show about mermaids
