In Mako Mermaids, they touch water and turn into mermaids. Their tails has fish scales, but so does their bras. I can how can they have a fish scaled tail, then a human skin belly, and then fish scaled boobs? Can they take off the fish scaled bras if they wanted to?

Secondly, since you've got me thinking about it, still considering this is a kids show, I do believe that the bra works as kind of a cencorship. If this were an adult show, the bra would not have been there. But I do believe it would have worked better if more of their bodies were covered in fish scales, say up to right under their arms, so that people like you would not be asking inappropriate questions about kids shows.
I would not say that this is a kid's show, I'd say that it is a pre-teen - early to mid teen show.
Also, the question is valid. I'm pretty sure that everyone who has watched the show has pondered over the fish scale bra to some extent or the other.
Why not ask the question? It's a valid question. I'm sure that pre-teen - early to mid teen girls who watch this show know about boobs. Even much younger girls know about boobs. Boobs aren't some taboo thing... every girl has them.
Yes, they are a form of censorship, but I feel like it is a bit of an enigma.

In REALITY, morphing into a mermaid would leave you topless and merely transform your lower region to that of a tail.
For whatever reason, they decided to give the girls fish scale bras to match their tails. It's weird because the tail is actually like a body part, that is attached to them, but the bra probably can be taken off. (because since when are bras a body part?)
I feel like it would have looked better if the girls got seashell type of bras. Think Ariel from The Little Mermaid. But, that perhaps still would have been too 'sexy' or too revealing. The halter bra is pretty modest in comparison to a seashell bra. I do think that a seashell bra could be made to look modest, though, with the right styling and design. They could have used very large 'seashells' (obviously not real seashells, just a resin or clay) and used pearls and things like faux seaweed to add modesty where needed.
i think the bra can be removed. its like when they turn to mermaids and they have accessories in their hair, like seashells and things. The accessories (like the bra) are part of the transformation as well.

I don't want to be too spoilerish in case you haven't seen episode 2, so let's just say Zach was trying to help one of the mermaids back into human form and he dried them off so they had legs, but a fish bra. The mermaid made a comment that he turned the bottom half human, but not the top half.
