important part removed from 2 hours length movie .(plot hole) spoiler

First i came here to ask why they didn't visit Lucy as seems the real mother Hannah already forgive them in the movie and she asked the police officer to reduce the jail time couple of months , but then we find out both Isabel/Tom living somewhere else and they never seen Lucy again and i asked my self why ?? they could visit her at least from time to time but no we see very sad ending . then i see the something missing from the movie as this guy said in the book the mother Hannah didn't forgive them totally which make sense now why both Isabel / Tom couldn't see Lucy as it wasn't promise from Isabel to keep far from Lucy which it doesn't make sense but

They didn't really explain this well in the movie (probably because it was already over 2 hours long), but it was better explained in the book.

She went because Tom wrote Ralph, who he still had contact with, to say Isabel was sick. Lucy-Grace didn't see Isabel and Tom before because she didn't understand why they kept her. Once she had her own child she understood why they kept her and why her mother couldn't forgive them. But she still didn't see them because Hannah had never forgiven them. But once Isabel got sick, Hannah gave her blessing and Lucy-Grace got their address from Ralph.

In the movie, it made it seem as though Hannah had totally forgiven them, she never did, not fully. And I guess Lucy thought they were bad people until she had her own child and realized how hard it would be to give him up. "

Now everthing make sense .

i didn't see it that way at all. if hannah had forgiven them, lucy grace would have gone to see them while she was still under her mother's thumb.

What I wanna know is how did Lucy went from hating her real mother to loving her all of a sudden. That's the biggest plot hole to me. Doesn't make any sense at all.

Okay movie if not for a ton of stupid plot holes.

In the book, does Isabel die before Lucy-Grace arrives?

reply

Hannah was prepared to forgive Isabel, believing it was best in order to put Lucy(-Grace) first, under the assumption that Isabel was under her husbands thumb (this was set in the early 1920's remember...) and had no choice in his keeping of Lucy.

When she found out Isobel had pushed Tom into keeping the baby well then she wipedher hands of them.

both Isabel/Tom living somewhere else and they never seen Lucy again and i asked my self why ?? they could visit her at least from time to time but no we see very sad ending

I haven't read the book, but i thought at first that Tom and Isabel had moved, probably to be closer to doctors. Now i think about it, it's just as likely that both Lucy and her mother, and Tom and Isabel had moved out of town. It would likely have been a large scandal in that small town they'd all want to distance themselves from. Which may be why Lucy hadn't really been able to seek them out, not until she was married and living independently of her family.

There's a scene where she clearly has empathy for them and hopes to reduce their jail time. This is after she finds out the truth that Tom wasn't behind the whole thing. What changed is that her daughter started to come around. I'm guessing she spoke on their behalf under the condition that they don't have any contact with Grace.
