Why didn't the mainland...? spoilers

Why didn't the mainland send the lighthouse a message that a dingy had been swept to sea so they could keep look out for it? They had contact with the island - Tom sent a message saying she had the baby early and did not need medical attention. Seems like an obvious thing to do.

Also, in regards to the men that visited the island, surely the couple would have leaped at the opportunity for outside news and conversation. Odd that they did not mention this event especially given Hannah's position in a well known, wealthy family.

Thoughts? Maybe book readers might have some insight?
