Why no Oscar love???

Watched this last night. Great acting from three of the best and most-respected in the industry right now, beautifully shot....so what gives, Academy? Why didn't you recognize this terrific film? It's better than some of the questionable stuff that was nominated.

And no, I'm not affiliated with the movie. Just don't get the snub.

My husband and I were just discussing this. The film is so beautiful!

Undoubtedly worthy of cinematography, probably worth considering the original score (I happened to listen to it yesterday before reading your post). While Vikander's and Fassbender's performances also were best acting caliber, The following applies every year:

There is a pool of 15-20 films that most of the nominations draw from - with a few outliers.

There was very little attention paid to this wonderful film. It fell under the nominations radar.

On a related note, three generations of family members saw this in the theater together. It was great on the big screen.

Good points. I was actually not very familiar with the book when I saw the movie and thought it stood pretty well on its own. The book may have more layers but the film acquits itself very well. And, of course, I can watch Fassbender and Vikander do pretty much anything. They had really good chemistry.

To me it was surprising because this seems like the kind of film Oscar voters love. Maybe it's because it was too "white" for them this year after all the criticism last year? Who knows....just a thought. There simply probably wasn't room for this kind of film this year specifically. Last year? It may have gotten several nominations.

Agree that Cinematography and Original Score should have been shoo-ins.

I am stumped as well.

This for me was one of the best movies i have seen in a while.
Great story, cinematography and acting. Very emotional as well.

I really hope it wasn't overlooked because it didn't have the standard tokenistic diverse cast or didn't push "progressive" agendas.

That's all it takes to win awards these days. Not great films

Such a shame.

Agreed 1000%. I think any other year and this film gets several nominations. Too much pressure on the Academy this year to go for diversity.

I doubt that is the reason, sometimes the judges don' t make the wisest choices regarding films.

That's the first thing I thought after I finished watching it. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone get Oscar nominations and Fassbender and Vikander get nothing? I just don't understand it.
