They also explained why which actually made sense. If they were to try and sell the card then "Swindell" can call it stolen therefore they'd get in trouble. Everyone knows that Swindell was in possession of the card because of the media. Ciara Bravo's character mentioned that they couldn't sell it anywhere.

Yep like the movie said, they'd be the first suspect. When Bing heard the phone call he got the idea. Taking it back by stealing could get them in trouble, instead they made him give them the card. Might be a con but in court its unlikely they'd get in trouble.
