No one aged in this film, most notably the children, even though it spanned over 25 years, but anyone old enough to be watching it should have no trouble recognizing it as a limitation of the production. No one is trying to deceive you into thinking that admirals and politicians are some kind of ageless light beings.
I can't believe I just had to type that. The level of discussion on imdb never ceases to amaze me.
