I disagree. He is getting old, but he still kicks ass and I loved that bit of dialogue from the fight.
Notice, they even said something like "He looks kind of beat up" before that fight. And of course instead of giving the crowd their money's worth, he just destroys his opponent in one punch. That doesn't really help if you're trying to draw in bets for a subsequent fight.
And he's supposed to be old. He's a grandfather in the movie. How interesting would it have been if he just got the stuffing kicked out of him?
As far as how tough he is at 69, he would easily kick my ass when I was in my prime (not that that's saying much).
If you want to complain about the movie, complain about the fairly predictable plot and the re-use of many cliches that have been used time and time again in grade B movies.
And face it, when I first started seeing Trejo in movies and had no idea who he was, he looked pretty rough and beat up even back then. If I saw him in a sketchy neighborhood today (and didn't recognize him), I'd be a bit nervous.
Although IRL, I understand he's a really nice guy.
