What serious topics has this show covered?

Serious question. Aside from the melodrama of dating, what other serious topics has GMW covered?

Long ago men competed on a show to date a woman who competed on a show to date Flava Flav.

Serious answer: This is Disney ! What serious issues would you expect GMW to cover? Good grief.

They did cover some things that's affected young people. Dating, bullying, anti-socialism, being different, classes of families and etc.

There's nothing wrong with making a kid and family show, but they can go heavier with their topics. Lots of kid/family shows on other networks do this and Boy Meets World did this, so Disney needs to grow some freaking balls and let kids get a TOUCH of these things. We're not saying go all HBO and Showtime on us and make it horror movie gory and porn but they're not even giving a BREAD CRUMB.

"Backstage" gets down and dirty more than this show does! That show touched on illness, plagiarism, expulsion, a character breaking her leg, adoption, and referenced DRUGS (a character named Jax believed a character named Miles was hooked on drugs to use against him but it turned out to just be medication to help his illness). "Backstage" plays the part of the type of shows we need on Disney. It's basically a mellowed version of Degrassi but does it well. I can buy those two shows happening in the same world. GMW and Boy Meets World are like in two different universes.

GMW is just too over the rainbow. The fact we're three seasons in and GMW has get to actually "grow" makes it a waste to even go. Disney was wrong to do this if they weren't going to do it right. I don't know if it's even Disney or if Michael Jacobs is just catering to what he feels Disney wants and thus the source/cause for this show kiddie-ness. If this show gets cancelled, it needs a fresh start on another network.

Those of us who are old enough to remember back when Disney used to air reruns of Boy Meets World saw the writing on the wall. They would edit episodes with even semi serious content to within an inch of their lives, and refused to air certain episodes at all. The prom episode, the episode where Cory and Shawn get drunk (although I always found their logic for the latter odd, as they always aired that episode of Smart Guy where a 12 YEAR OLD kid gets *beep* faced.)

I knew they were gonna neuter it to all hell when it was announced for Disney Channel of all places, and that's exactly what they did. It's a shame as everyone was waiting for this sequel for well over a decade, assumed it was inevitable, and they completely wasted the potential for it like suicide bombers. The logic for putting the sequel on a ridiculously campy tv network where they can't even get away with saying "oh my God" instead of "oh my gosh" (where even Nick relents) will forever baffle me. Boy Meets World was never Degrassi, but it was never a blatant kids show, and it was never this over the top. It was a coming of age family show. This doesn't even come close to the same aurora BMW had, and I guess it wouldn't matter had the whole damn appeal and promotion tactics had not been centered around the premise of "omgz remember Boy Meets World! Well now it's CORY and TOPANGA'S daughter'a turn!!".

The bottom line is they could've accomplished what they wanted to do putting this on ABC next to Last Man Standing or on Freeform, but Disney Channel should have never been on the table. I hope they give this show a real chance to flourish to what it could still be, and what it should've been in the first place, by moving it to Freeform for the rest of its run. But if it's Disney Channel or bust, then bust. I couldn't care less if they renew it or not if that's the case. They already shat on BMW's legacy enough with this tripe and I hope they just retcon it out of continuity ten years from now if this is really it.

Agreed on everything. This show was such a good potential and was just a waste given how bland it turned out in the end. Three seasons in and hasn't truly grown. Now it seems like Disney has lost interest in it and on the verge of being cancelled. That's probably what it needs if they're not going to ship it elsewhere. But I'd like to see it grow and not have all this hard work be gone to waste. The potential is still there, it just needs to be off of Disney.

Disney is NOT a family channel; Disney is a Children's channel - and you can't expect any serious issues - for example - the clowns calling for a romance between Riley and Maya - the idea is ridiculous on its face.

That's it.

They could have a LGBT relationship and not have it be about sex, like all the other kidy relationships they have on this show. Like Ava and Auggie dating is not about sex. Just like they can talk about the holocaust and slavery and it not be too harsh for a child either.

I think the Bullying episode was probably one of the hardest because Riley cried. I could imagine that being hard for a child. Also, it so depends on the child. The Disney channel is a terrible channel anyways. Most of it's content is boring. Girl Meets World is actually good.

Disney needs to have some family-oriented shows like they had back in the 1990s-2000s. They can be a kid's channel but they should let a couple shows be different so they're not all so damn bland and basically the same. To make a sequel to a show like BOY MEETS WORLD, people are bound to want this show to branch out and explore heavy topics. It just goes to show they were totally wrong for this show if they weren't going to do that.
