Although i love fuller house despite not seeing the original but curious what the spinoff of that show girl meets tried to but failed. I guess for one the more raunchy adult humor while the characters evolved but staying true to themselves whereas cory and topanga were shadows of their former selves.
shareFuller House didn't try to be strictly a kid's show. It kept most of the family feel from the original and even added some adult jokes. It also doesn't try to shove lessons down our throats. GMW never even tried to be like BMW and that's why it was such a disaster. Cory and Topanga are nothing like they used to be unless they are around Shawn. Which brings me to another reason GMW sucks.. Cory and Topanga are the only original characters to be regulars. That hurts a lot. Fuller House benefits a lot from having three original stars. Even then, the rest of the cast come around a lot more in FH than GMW. You have to wait months in between Shawn or Feeny episodes. Also, Fuller House benefits a LOT from just using the same house and setting. GMW would have felt alot more familiar had it taken place at the Matthews house in Philly. We didn't want GMW. We wanted an adult version of BMW. Fuller house is more like an adult version of Full House.. but still child friendly. Jeff Franklin nailed it. Michael Jacobs and Disney lost it completely. I wish Netflix would start an adult BMW project where Cory, Topanga and the kids move back to their parents house in Philly and Shawn, Katy and Maya move into Feeny's house after he passes away. Eric needs to be a regular character as well. He WAS BMW in the later seasons.

shareWhat makes fuller house a big success is how it makes better use of the original main cast members which is something girl meets world could have done well but didn't, I agree the preachiness of gmw was annoying at times since there didn't always have bea life lesson and lacked the fun and humor of the original. Cory and topanga being reduced to side character particularly the latter didn't work. I would have preferred if girl meets world had coryand topanga move back to philly after George feeny passes away.

I haven't watched it but my guess is it's allowed to keep that same formula that made Full House popular as GMW had to make adjustments to go on Disney. I expect That's so Raven will do a lot better than GMW because it's former fans will recognize it better.
I watched some episodes of thats so raven which i wasnt too crazy about but i hope the spinoff doesnt suffer the same fate gmw did.

shareI think Fuller House came out of the gate full speed ahead not trying to hide the fact it was trying to be like the original series, which has worked for it I think. Girls Meets World tried to be kind of it own show with some throwbacks to the original sprinkled in which kind of worked for the first two seasons, but then season three happened and started trying way too hard to be like boy meets world instead of just of extension of the original series like it started out to be. Just look at Season three intro for example.

Fuller House is a much more social, and a modernized show. I can find more activity in just one episode than I ever saw in the boring, cult-like, inner circle, study of a show, like Girl Meets World.

Boy Meets World was all encompassing, with Corey's parents, Morgan (who we never saw in GMW), Eric, Shawn, and of course Feeny, also storylines involved everyone. GMW ignored its roots and focused mainly on new characters. It was a nice idea, but not nice enough.

However if you're going to do that do it right, I didn't want them to be a carbon copy of Boy Meets World anyway but at least try to get the feel of Boy Meets World. shareThat was one thing the show got right. GMW should not have been a revolving door of the original cast. It made sense to see Shawn and it made sense that he'd have his own independent life. Feeney is 89, he's not up for being a regular cast member. Morgan wasn't ever a character they knew what to do with, but she would have been preferable to Josh.
It simply isn't feasible to tell adult Cory and Topanga's story and Rileyans Maya's story in a 23 minute episode.
2017! Time for more Asians on tv and in movies. Get it right DC/WB/Fox!
It did not make sense to have Shawn marry Maya's mother. That did not feel well built into the storyline. They seriously met, dated once, and then got married. That doesn't work. It would have been better to never show her parents then to do what they did.
It wasn't on Disney Channel which never allowed GMW to mature.

I like the show better because there are no Olsen Twins. I read somewhere the three main stars of the show were gonna be Candace playing DJ, Jodie playing Stephanie and one of the Olsen Twins to play Michelle. But none of the Olsen twins wanted to come back so they asked Andrea to come back and play Kimmie. Well I'm glad they did. I don't care for the Olsens to come back. I prefer Kimmie. She's HILARIOUS!
