Was GMW in hindsight, geared towards a lost demographic?

To put things in a proper perspective Boy Meets World, along with many shows in the '90s, were shows that grew up with their audience (namely, 14-20 year olds). But what network block exactly fills that TGIF role today? It arguably used to be ABC Family and the CW/WB, but both of those networks now skew older. Meanwhile, MTV is wrapping up the last of their high school shows.

It's a wonder if Girl Meets World would've been a better show had it allowed to grow out of the 6-14 demographic that they were limited to on The Disney Channel.

It's interesting how bad disney and nick ratings have fallen off as they've trended younger with their programming.

The show would've been a success if they had made as a family sitcom focusing on the entire family instead of a show for 12 year olds focusing on weak and unrealistic pre teens. Look at Fuller House. This had the potential to be much better than that and they squandered it. This is why no one should bother trying to cater to an audience this young. Kids will literally watch anything as long as it's flashy and not to complex.

But this show isn't flashy and ws complex

This show wasn't Bunk'd stupid, but it was not complex.

What do we want? More Asian actresses and actors. When do we want it? Yesterday!

reply

Like I said about Fuller house in other posts/topics NO Olsen Twins NO Interest!

Hell bring Lizzie Olsen in I will settle for that!

How is that any different than BMW which focused squarely on Corey. Why can that be a success despite not being Full House? From there Disney has all sorts of coming of age teenage girls stories that do great.

Your point is one bad reasons it failed. I just wanted it to follow the adults around more. Grown @## Man Meets World.

The ABC Tuesday/Wednesday night comedy block with shows like Modern Family, The Goldbergs, the Real O'Neils, Blackish, and Fresh off the Boat.

That was the biggest part of the problem.

Since they were primarily targeting tweens, those people up to 14 years of age weren't even born when the BMW series aired. They have absolutely no backstory on these characters, and probably don't understand any of the older references.

We grew up with the original show. I'm willing to bet that the majority of their viewership was composed mainly of the BMW fan base. When they started targeting a younger audience, they lost us, hence why the ratings were declining.

As for the lineup, ABC Wednesdays has a comedy block, as well as CBS Thursdays, I believe.
