Netflix Rejected it

HAHA They picked up "Fuller House" but not this.

Interestingly enough, Jacobs says that they signed for 4 seasons, does that means that the ratings fell down really hard that Diney Channel rather cancelled it than lose money on another season?

Oh but all the unsourced and uncited fan speculation and gossip rags are reliable when it talks about news you like?

The Article not real source from Netflix. Wait till Netflix said if they plan to pick it up or not.
Given that both Yahoo! and "TV Series Finale" both refer to the article from "The Wrap," I'm inclined to believe that "The Wrap" is a reliable source. We'll find out soon enough if it isn't, but for now, I'm going to accept that it's valid.

There's still Freeform, Hulu, and some other services that may show an interest in it. If Freeform doesn't grab it, though, I'd say that it's unlikely to be picked up by anyone else. Keep in mind that I'm hopeful that it will get picked up, but I'm not hopeful to the point of ignoring reality.

reply

Even I have to admit you're using your brain on this one!

reply

I'm always using my brain.

reply

There's still Freeform

I know people keep mentioning that station, but you have to remember, Disney owns it. If it was their idea to axe this show to begin with and not have it renewed, then you can bet that there's a 99% chance Freeform is out of the question.

Netflix is only picking up the third and final season of GMW. They are not going to continue the show because they know it's not worth it. The ratings are an indication of such.

I'm sorry to say, but the nostalgia hype for this show has been dead for quite some time. They had most of the original BMW cast in the series finale, but only pulled 0.47 in the 18 - 49 demographic with 1.64 million viewers. That's really bad by regular network standards.

Here's a few articles that I Googled about Netflix and GMW:

http://screenrant.com/netflix-passes-girl-meets-world-season-4/

http://www.trippedmedia.com/tv/girl-meets-world-might-just-see-season-4-new-network/206453/

Jacobs remains hopeful that another network will pick up the series. He wants to continue telling the stories fans have fallen in love with. Fans originally cajoled Netflix to pick up the series for the next season, but the video-streaming network is reportedly not interested.

So, with Netflix out of the picture, what is next for Girl Meets World? Season 4 would have talked about dealing with changes and losses. Jacobs said he is sure fans would learn a lot from what his ideas about Season 4 are.

If ever a network picks up Girl Meets World, that’s well and good for Jacobs. If not, he said they had a good run with it, and he’s content with what he accomplished.

Sorry, but, not going to happen. At least not with Netflix and Freeform.

Actually, that might help it more than hurt it. Just because Disney owns it, it doesn't mean that the same rules apply to programming. For example, Switched At Birth deals with some rather mature topics, stuff that you would never see on Disney Channel. Think about it, less licensing issues to deal with, Jacob already has his foot in the door (so to speak)... All he'd need to do is convince those in charge of FreeForm that they could start handling more mature issues in the show, and use the rather strict limits of Disney Channel as a way of saying that the reason it started dropping in ratings is because they couldn't keep it appropriate for the age of the cast. Not in a way that reflects badly on Disney, just a way of saying that it was getting harder to come up with story lines that would stay within the limits that would also fit a high school setting. Sort of how kids graduate from middle school to high school, the show would graduate from Disney to FreeForm, so it's in the same company.

I find it unlikely that Hulu will pick it up, since Netflix carries the show and Hulu doesn't. I'm sure there would be licensing issues, along with the idea that Netflix wouldn't be likely to carry Hulu produced programming (either by choice or by other licensing). Amazon is another possibility (it has all the episodes already available), so if FF doesn't pick it up, I'd say Amazon is the last good chance left.

Mind you, I'm not saying it's very likely that FF will take it, only that it would make sense and probably entail less red tape. Not only that, might be cost less than an outside company trying to continue it.

reply

Lol yeah they said the same thing about rider strong.
Honestly, who wants this show? Everyone who matters is clearly over it.

reply

People are saying Disney got rid of it because it wasn't "relevant" enough. I don't get it. How was the show not relevant? And Jacobs didn't think he could fight for this show to go pass four seasons and break Disney's crappy rule on that as they did for the 65 episode limit thing? If that's the case then why start the characters out in seventh grade? The show would have ended halfway through their high school adventures. We would have seen what they did in their most important high school years and why even agree to do a show with Disney if it's only going to last a little over half the time BMW did? This show deserved six seasons at the most. Disney definitely should have put the show on ABC like BMW was airing. Why even put it on their main channel? Ugh.....

reply

How was the show not relevant?

Have you seen the show?

Because I'm sure as Tom Brady whipping Rothlesturder good that you actually haven't.

reply

I have watched it dumbass. I am here all the time posting about things that go on in the show unless you just think I'm reading summaries and guess what? I'm not. The idea of relevancy never popped into my head and I'm sure it didn't with you either. What needed to be relevant about it? It tries to tackle important life lessons. Didn't think there was anything wrong there.

The show sucked. They dragged out the triangle and they even got rid of Lucaya interaction because R*cas can only exist without Lucas and Maya having scenes together which is very telling. All of the lessons are over the top and you should have expected the show to fail when majority of the watchers were from boy meets world. They didn't want to see it be about the new generation. Cory and Topanga brought people to the show and lack of them drove them away.

Also the series finale was too easy. Topanga should have taken her job in London. Instead the Matthew's get to stay and everyone has their happy ending. These kids will never learn about real life. Friends move. Life goes on. Everything is handed to them. That's not realistic.

reply

Yes, that was a real mistake. It also made all the angst empty. What was the point of all that hand-wringing if they weren't going to follow through?

reply

This is a tv show. They aren't going to have the main character move away from all the other main characters. Was anyone surprised when Cory started teaching high school? No, because this is a tv show.

reply

It is (probably) the last episode, so they could have done something different, as series finales often do. And if they bring the show back, they could just have Topanga change her mind.

reply

Chandler and Monica moved on friends although that was the finale

The whole love triangle thing was a waste of time and dragged out too much. The kids were too young to be worrying about love and there was little Riley and Lucas action anyway.

They did make a big deal out of very little unimportant issues. Some of the lessons I liked, others were just ridiculous and kiddie. Again, wrong channel and Michael Jacobs was just too soft with this one. He apparently changed with the times and felt kids today wouldn't be able to handle the maturity of BMW kids who tuned into that show then manage to do.

Well this isn't reality, this is fictional TV. It doesn't have to be realistic and it kills me to say that because I hated how they just brought so many BMW characters to New York City (Cory, Topanga, Stuart, Harley, Mr. Turner, etc.) and how they kept making Cory the kids' teacher even though high school. But oh well. It made sense to have Topanga stay as the Matthews would have moved and we would have lost half the cast had the show continued to Season 4. They did what they did because they thought the show would still be going on another year and it made no sense to relocate and introduce us to new characters we'll only have a year with if Season 4 is to be the last. It's like when ANT Farm relocated it's setting for it's third season only to then get cancelled afterwards. Pointless.

Hell, Topanga could have went by herself if Danielle wanted to leave and that would be a suitable exit for her like how on That's So Raven, Tanya Baxter took a job up in England to be a lawyer to explain her absence in Season 4.

I don't watch this show very often and when I heard the news of it cancelling I was like ok whatever. I watched this very occasionally and usually they show the same episode over and over so I don't think anything new about it...

But anyways, this show is soooooo good. I'm very lame, I know it, but movies/shows with like relationships and especially the "we love the same person" theme, I just die for it. Like twilight. Yes, yes I know IMDb boards are all about how everything is lame and sucks but please spare me the hate.

Watching the ski lodge episodes have won me over. I really like them older in high school. The relationships are more complex like Maya and Josh...I'm screaming! I wish this could be on like CW or something. I doubt Disney would ever give this away...please someone save this show!!!

And yet you "watched this very occasionally"?

You guys seriously wonder why I troll the *beep* out of you and call everyone on this board a moron?

reply

I wonder why netflix passed on the show. Cw seems more towards dc shows now but i wonder about hulu or maybe freeform which seems to be the best fit.

The actors sign on 4 years, Disney has the option of picking it up each year. So it's like the NFL where on the players end you have to live out the deal out but the owners can walk away whenever they want.

reply

[deleted]

Nobody is going to pick it up because the actors have all moved on and won't sign on for extra years. Who's going to buy out Girl Meets World for 1 season? If you're Sabrina you can go on tours and focus on music or work on some Netflix show. They're not that desperate.

reply

Isn't Sabrina only touring for two weeks? I agree that the hardest thing the show has going for it is that it has been six months since the actors last filmed, but i still think there is a chance.

Well the Wrap isn't that reliable. They said that Zendaya would be Mary Jane in Spider-Man: Homecoming and that was debunked.

Even Breitbart.com and The Drudge Report can make this easy call. Girl Meets World is done. Get over it already.

reply

There's no proof, no source cited. All they have is the original Michael Jacob's quote about talking with interested parties...

For some silly reason they randomly throw in that Netflix isn't interested, but there's ZERO proof of that.

There's not even a tabloid special of 'some people say' or 'insiders have heard' or 'sources involved with' taglines. It's just completely random.
