I'm SO disappointed they didn't get a TCS kid to play the part. Those pictures are just of him sticking his tongue out, which is not one of the biggest characteristics of the syndrome.

(I'm auntie to a 9 y.o. TCS boy. So I'm extremely curious to know how this movie comes out.)

I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. The book was excellent.

They had a TCS kid lined up to play Auggie but he had major surgery scheduled around the time they started filming so Jacob was sort of a last minute decision.

But how can you prove for SURE that I don't go to Hogwarts??

reply

Oh really? At least they tried, as I think Jacob will really bring Auggie alive after seeing him in Room. It's a bit disappointing though that he won't look as much as he did in the book, but it's more about the performance I think

Although I am also a bit dissapointed about August's face as it doesn't look like the one described in the book or the real life disease, I am still looking forward to the film, and I have faith it will still be good. I can tell Jacob Tremblay will be very talented as August.

Have a good day!

You call that a facial disfigurement?! What a joke.

It actually borders on insulting.

I'm sorry, did I do something wrong? I didn't mean to say something mean. Please let me know if I did.

No, I don't think you did anything wrong.
The cranial facial condition Auggie is described having aren't from a disease.
I think Jacob Tremblay was the right choice to play Auggie. He's a very talented actor.

I'm reading the book right now, and the makeup job in these pictures is clearly not adequate. Auggie in the book is not just homely; he has a face that causes people to physically recoil. I don't see that with the face in these pictures. If people respond to him in the movie like they do in the book, it won't look authentic. And if people in the movie DON'T respond to Auggie the way they do in the book, the power of the story is lost. The film makers either needed to go a lot further with the makeup or use Jacob's natural face with the understanding that this is not what characters in the movie are seeing. The face in these pictures is halfway in between.
