I will agree with the dumb part (suddenly wanting to defy her gender role in 1770s America instead of realizing that it would be her greatest tool in becoming a spy) but I wouldn't call her a home wrecker... if anyone was a home wrecker it was Abe.
Abe was engaged to Anna, he asked she said yes but they hadn't gone public.
At that point Mary was engaged to Thomas - everything was set for their marriage and both families were prepared.

So Abe decides to take it upon himself to step in for his brother an marry Mary as a form of atonement. Not thinking of its effects on Anna or Mary for that matter, and leaving Mary clueless about his history with Anna.
There are many times where Abe initiates their affair and Anna just goes with it because she still loves him.
Exactly. The whole love triangle is messy so I can hardly blame anyone but Abe, and even he had a good reason to take care of Mary. The proper thing to do would be to merry Anna and to take the role of provider for Mary, it possible.
