I always flip between hating him because he is ridiculously over the top and loving him because he's the only one smart enough to figure out what's going on. Well when he's not directly involved in the situation.

I like the character, but he is a bit over the top in ability, and he moves to many places too quickly on foot.
I am totally confused about his character although in my defense I just started watching the series a few days ago and recorded the last 5 episodes of season 3 and just watched the new episode last night. When I researched him on wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Rogers_(soldier) it says that he was on the British side. But in this series it seems that he is on the Continental Army's side and the British are always trying to find him and arrest him? What gives here? What am I missing?
