Anyone watching the season opener???

I have to wait a day later. But will be watching. Looking forward to it.

reply

I guess everyone from IMDB went elsewhere. This is the first season where I won't be able to talk to anyone about HACF - and the last. ;(

reply

Well people got spread out within several different boards. All the rest that I have seen are no busier than this if not slower. This is by far the best replacement for IMDB. The other problem is Halt and Catch Fires fan-base is so tiny it's not helping matters.

reply

It is unfortunate that more of the IMDB people don't seem to have found their way to MovieChat, but hey, we've got four people in this thread now so you won't be totally alone!

reply

Where is elsewhere? I was on the IMDB boards with you and an eclectic collection of others. I wish we still had it so we can count down the final episodes.

reply

Where is elsewhere?

There were a couple of other IMDB replacements that popped up, like IMDB2 and The Movie Database, and some people decided to call those sites home instead of MovieChat.

And I'm sure some IMDBers didn't realize there even was anywhere else to go.

reply

Thanks, I'll check those others you cited. I didn't bother looking after the IMDB boards went offline mostly because I was not interested in chatting about most TV shows, and some of the shows I do watch had boards dominated by the flotsam of internet trolls.

reply

You can look into them of course, but I really would encourage you to give MovieChat all your business, so to speak. We need more people here.

reply

I would almost say don't watch it until the next episode comes out. This one is very long and slow.... builds up but I have no clue why they seemed to draw things out so much. The entire set up of the 90 minutes could have been condensed down to 45 and not missed anything. I hope the rest of the season doesn't slog on at this pace.

reply

I may do that. Actually I like watching this as it gets cooler and closer to fall and winter. Think I will spread the episodes out a bit.....

reply

I agree that the opener feels slow and drawn out.

It's weird, because they decided to do a feature-length premiere, which I was excited about, but then kind of squandered the opportunity by just stretching out a regular episode's amount of story into two episodes' worth of screen time. I figured that since they were doing this extra-long opener that they had a lot of story to tell and that the episode would be packed with stuff happening.

In any case, it's good to see the gang again and hopefully there are good things to come and the show ends on a high note. The reviews I've read so far have all been good and the reviewers get access to, I think, the first three eps.

reply

IMHO the opener and epi 3 has glommed over allot and has skipped too quickly into the future. I think 3-4 years have passed over these 1st 3 episodes.

reply

That really pissed me off when I thought the season 4 premiere was going to be 90 min episode not 2 episodes rolled in to 90 mins that was misleading!
They should at least make the final episode of S4 a 90min or 120 min episode

reply

I'm not a big fan of that either. Mostly I think they try to keep episodes near 1hr with the syndication value kept in mind.

reply

Yea I know but when other series have done that it hasn't been 2 episodes in one-It has been a feature length episode-And they promoted it as if it was a really long episode of 90mins
Where you from?

reply

Way back in the 1970's there was a series of 3 Musketeer movies. In the 2nd one, they actual shot not only the 2nd movie but also got all the shots for the third one. But everyone was paid for 1 movie. This was one of the most audacious acts by a producer and a movie studio. Since then after the lawsuit, a more stringent definition of what constituted a feature film, or hourly and half hour tv productions could do. If they shot 1 2 hour episode but in syndication sold it as a 2 part episode, hell would ensue.

reply

Yeah, it's annoying. I guess the show is only being granted so much airtime, so if they're going to use two hours' worth then it has to count for two episodes.

I was hoping for big things when I found out the premiere was going to be feature-length but unfortunately I was left a bit disappointed. I think what really was happening there was that the writers felt like they needed to get a bunch of exposition out of the way and they figured this was the best way to do it.

reply

PrimeMinisterX exactly, Where you from? and what other TV shows do you watch that are set in the 80's or 90's or both??

I'm from Utah. Salt Lake City. I think we may have had this conversation before, actually. You're from the UK aren't you?

As for other shows I watch that are set in the 80s, the only two I can think of are GLOW and Stranger Things. But I liked the decade so I'm down for more.

reply

Yes of course As soon as I sent that last message I thought I have spoke to this guy before lol
Yes I'm from UK-When you sorting out your trip to UK?

Did you read that link I sent, You should watch other TV shows which sure you have watched or know of like- Halt + Catch Fire, Red Oaks, The Goldbergs, Snowfall, Narcos, Channel Zero. Deutschland 83, which followed an East German operative in West Germany, returns next year on SundanceTV as Deutschland 86. etc

reply

Oh, probably get that UK trip sorted sometime in the future when I'm not such a broke bum.

And I've considered checking out Snowfall. I might do that. Narcos I watched, but didn't really get into.

I'll look into the others you mentioned.

reply

Haha fair enough and when do you think that might be lol, Yea Check out Snowfall unless you don't know that has been renewed for a second season!
Yea please look in to the others I have mentioned except for Halt + Catch Fire as why your on this board-And know you watch Stranger Things + GLOW..........The Americans is also one of my fav shows set in the 80's
