Oh good!!
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who freaked out and went "Yaaaaa!" and started singing along when I heard "Velouria" playing!
Pixies are da bomb - now and forever! 🙌
Light a fire, a fire, a sparkshare
Light a fire, a flame in my heart
Love how this show uses so much music that was popular but not represented in movies at the time ie Tom Waits and now Pixies.
I'm surprised there hasn't been any Husker Du or Replacements on the show yet.
Eh I don't know what 'phallocentric' means, but NO GIRLS!share
I'm not really sure what you're talking about. I think in a lot of ways this show way misses the mark with the music it uses to represent the kind of character Cameron was. I rarely hear anything I remember (many songs I've never heard), and almost all of the stuff that was big for people who liked the kind of music she certainly would have been listening to has been completely ignored (possibly due to difficult licensing). I typically blame that sort of thing on someone who wasn't actually alive or old enough to know about the era accurately doing the music picking.

So who do you think she should be listening to?

Dead Kennedys would be a good start, which certainly would have been one of that character's favorite bands. I think she wore a Black Flag t-shirt at one point, but they never played any that I recall. Mainly, it's just that I heard nothing in her character's music that took me back to that time. And again, that could just have been because of difficult licensing.

your taste in music is pretty limited if the Pixies dont remind you of the 90s, which is when that scene took place... Black Flag + DK were early 80s... the music they picked through the series show actual great taste including XTC b-sides

That scene where Cam was dancing on Velouria... I believe that even those who hated her throughout the three seasons had to find her wonderful in that moment.
shareAm I the only person wondering when Comdex 1990 was? And if the show was accurate?
They snuck in alternative version of a Yo La Tengo song that came out in 1996 in a different episode.
Where the characters listening to the song or was a part of the shows soundtrack?
shareYou can make out Cameron mouthing the lyrics at one point as she is dancing.

The Pixies are the best.
only with Kim still in the band though. Pixies ain't the Pixies without her.
It was awesome hearing that song. It fit that scene so well that now those characters, the show and that song have such a deeper meaning to me.
